How the books reveal Belly’s choice
The final novel centers on Belly’s choice between brothers Conrad and Jeremiah. A letter from Susannah helps clarify the emotional stakes: Jeremiah opens one intended for Conrad and realizes that Susannah had seen Conrad in love only once—with Belly. The publisher’s reading-group guide points readers to the final-page revelation of which brother Belly chooses to spend her life with.
In the novel’s later timeline, Belly and Jeremiah’s relationship ends after less than two years. Belly studies in Spain, and Conrad writes to her. They reconnect at her college graduation, become engaged about a year later, and the epilogue shows them newly married, according to TIME’s summary of the book ending.
How the book ending differs from the TV finale
The books and the television adaptation both pair Belly with Conrad in the end, but the route to that outcome is different. In the book account, Belly goes to Spain and reunites with Conrad at her college graduation. TIME’s account of the aired Season 3 finale places Belly in Paris and depicts a different reunion. Those Paris events belong to the show, not the novel.

We’ll Always Have Summer is the third and final novel in the trilogy. Simon & Schuster describes it as the trilogy’s conclusion; its publisher page lists the hardcover as 304 pages and gives April 26, 2011 as the publication date.
