Charlie Sheen’s latest direct public update, in a May 22, 2026 Netflix Tudum interview, was that he was eight years sober. He described the documentary about his life as bringing relief and a sense of finality, while leaving open what he might do next. The interview does not announce a new acting role or establish his current medical status.
What is Charlie Sheen doing today?
In the 2026 interview, Sheen reflected on the years covered in aka Charlie Sheen and on how watching and discussing his past affected him. He said the experience helped him put that period in perspective and move forward. “I went from being on my heels to on my toes,” he said of his reaction to the documentary. He also described a sense of acceptance: “I don’t feel like anything’s missing. It just is.” Netflix Tudum’s interview presents these as Sheen’s own reflections.
He has not, in that account, confirmed a return to regular acting work. Sheen said writing was rewarding and left open the possibility of writing what he might act in next; that is not the same as announcing a project. The Associated Press’s 2025 coverage of his memoir also describes writing it as exceptionally challenging and rewarding, and quotes him on fatherhood’s importance to his sober life.
Is Charlie Sheen sober now?
Sheen said in the May 2026 Tudum interview that he was eight years sober. He has said he stopped drinking in 2017. Those are statements about his own recovery, not an independent clinical assessment. The duration should be read in the context of the date and how anniversaries are counted.

At the time of the documentary’s 2025 release, Netflix described him as seven years sober; AP also reported him as eight years sober in September 2025. These dated descriptions need not conflict: they refer to different points in time and use rounded durations. Netflix’s documentary description gives the earlier framing.
What happened after Two and a Half Men?
Sheen became a major film and television actor after growing up around the movie industry and beginning to act young. His public troubles intensified around his 2011 departure from Two and a Half Men. AP’s review of his memoir recounts years of substance use and places that upheaval within his later account of addiction and recovery.

In 2015, Sheen publicly disclosed that he had HIV. Netflix’s documentary coverage dates his diagnosis to 2011. Sheen has continued to discuss living with HIV, including in the documentary and 2026 interview. Those sources do not establish his current treatment, test results, or prognosis, and no conclusion about transmission should be drawn from them.
What do the memoir and documentary reveal?
aka Charlie Sheen
Netflix released the two-part documentary in 2025. It follows Sheen’s upbringing, rise to fame, public fall, addiction, family relationships, and recovery, combining his perspective with accounts from people around him. The film is useful for understanding how Sheen and others describe these events, but it is not a neutral clinical record, and its claims should not all be treated as independently verified. Netflix’s official catalog entry lists its two-episode format and episode descriptions.

The Book of Sheen
Published by Gallery Books in 2025, Sheen’s memoir traces his life through his decision to get sober in 2017. AP reported that the book is 359 pages and recounts his personal history in his own voice. Sheen’s account emphasizes responsibility: “Good guys sometimes do some bad things but the only way to stay a good guy is to own that (expletive) and move forward.” Like the documentary, the memoir is a first-person account, not independent verification of every event it describes.

What can be said about Sheen’s life today?
The clearest answer is limited to what he has publicly said: in May 2026, he described himself as eight years sober, discussed living with HIV, and said completing the documentary brought relief and helped him look ahead. His latest account is reflective, not an announcement of a specific acting project. His memoir and the documentary offer fuller accounts of his past, but his current treatment details and future work plans are not established by these sources.
