In a text or casual online chat, OFC usually means “of course.” That’s the default reading on Snapchat too; there is no separate Snapchat-only meaning established by the sources cited here. Context matters, though: OFC can have other meanings in fandom and specialized writing.
What does OFC mean in a text or on Snapchat?
OFC is an abbreviation for “of course” in internet slang and text messaging. It is commonly used to agree, confirm something, or reassure someone. For example, in response to “Can you send me the notes?”, “ofc” normally means “of course.” Wiktionary identifies this as the primary online meaning, and a school newsletter’s texting glossary gives the same expansion: Wiktionary’s OFC entry and the newsletter glossary.
The same default applies when you see it in a Snapchat chat. The cited references describe a general messaging abbreviation, not a Snapchat feature or platform-specific code; a separate Snapchat meaning is not established by Snapchat’s site.
Can OFC mean “of fucking course”?
It can, but that expansion is documented as uncommon. Wiktionary notes that “of course” remains the more recognized online meaning. Since both expansions use the same letters, don’t assume a neutral “ofc” contains profanity: rely on the conversation and the sender’s usual style. The letters alone do not reliably tell you whether the message is warm, matter-of-fact, emphatic, or sarcastic.

What does OFC mean in fanfiction?
In fanfiction discussions, OFC can mean “original female character”: a female character created for a fanwork rather than one from the original source material. Dictionary.com distinguishes this fandom use from the texting abbreviation in its OFC explainer. If the conversation is about characters or fanfiction, that context may be a better guide than the usual chat meaning.
How should you interpret OFC in other contexts?
OFC is also used as an initialism outside casual messaging, but the cited references do not provide an exhaustive list of those specialized expansions. In a technical, professional, or organizational document, use the subject matter and surrounding text to work out what it means; if that remains unclear, ask the writer rather than guessing.
Does capitalization change the meaning?
Not reliably. Both “OFC” and “ofc” are used for “of course,” and capitalization by itself is not a dependable decoder for the alternative meanings or for tone. Read the whole exchange rather than treating uppercase letters as proof of a particular expansion.

Wiktionary reported a 2023 Tumblr poll with 2,909 votes, in which 64.8% favored “of course.” That was a Tumblr poll, not a representative survey, so it cannot establish what all users mean or measure current usage. No representative statistic on contemporary OFC use is established by the cited sources.
