Emails described in House Oversight records show repeated, friendly contact between Jeffrey Epstein and Thomas Pritzker from at least 2010 through early 2019, including exchanges about current events and plans to meet. They document contact, not the purpose of every meeting or criminal conduct. Later reporting adds a 2018 exchange with an immediate clarification, Pritzker’s February 2026 resignation from Hyatt’s executive chair role, and a reported allegation and denial that must be distinguished from a court finding.
What do the emails show?
WBEZ reported on November 19, 2025, that its review of a 20,000-page House Oversight and Government Reform Committee release found at least 20 back-and-forth emails between Epstein and Pritzker. That is WBEZ’s count from its review, not a definitive count of every message in the archive. The reported correspondence spans at least 2010 through early 2019 and includes friendly exchanges, discussion of current events and plans to see one another. WBEZ’s account describes examples, but the record of contact does not by itself establish what happened at a proposed meeting or why it was planned.
Plans to meet and friendly exchanges
In an August 2016 exchange, Pritzker wrote that he was looking for a time to catch up in New York. Epstein invited him to visit while Epstein was in Santa Fe. WBEZ reports that Pritzker did not reply in that exchange, so the messages do not establish that the proposed visit took place.
In a 2013 exchange about a Washington Post article concerning Penny Pritzker, WBEZ reports that Thomas Pritzker complained about dealing with the matter. Epstein replied, “nice to see you , please come more often,” and Pritzker answered, “Always fun.” WBEZ says it is unclear what Epstein meant by the invitation. The quoted words convey a friendly tone, but do not resolve the context or establish a particular event. WBEZ’s report also describes an email about Chicago politics and an Epstein scheduling note listing “pritzker mon” among other names; a scheduling notation alone does not establish that a meeting occurred.

What was the context of the 2018 “new girlfriend” exchange?
The 2018 exchange can be misleading if read as a fragment. The Atlantic quotes a remark about a “new girlfriend” and Pritzker’s reply, “May the Force be with you.” But a secondary review of the documents says Epstein associate Karyna Shuliak’s next message explicitly said she was joking, then described resort and architecture research connected to Epstein’s island plans. That continuation matters: the available reporting does not establish that a girlfriend was found or introduced. The Atlantic’s April 2026 report and the secondary document review provide the respective accounts.
How do the committee records relate to the emails?
In a September 16, 2025, letter, the House Oversight Committee described an in-camera review of Epstein estate records, including about 1,500 pages of calendars and communications that detailed meetings, phone calls and travel. The letter names Tom Pritzker among people included in those records. It establishes the scope and categories of the committee’s review, not the contents of any particular email. The Department of Justice separately maintains a public index of Epstein-related data sets and says it redacted victims’ names and identifying information. That index is not the same thing as the House committee’s release of estate materials; the cited WBEZ account concerns the latter. Redactions and administrative labels also mean that a released record may not supply all context. The DOJ’s disclosure site explains its index and redactions.
What did Pritzker say, and what changed in 2026?
WBEZ’s November 2025 report said Pritzker had not been accused of wrongdoing or named in an investigation into Epstein’s crimes at the time it was published. That statement describes the status reported in November 2025; it should not be presented as an up-to-date account after later reporting.

TIME reported that Pritzker resigned as Hyatt executive chairman effective February 16, 2026, and would not seek reelection to the company’s board. Hyatt described his departure as retirement. Separately, TIME quoted Pritzker expressing regret about his ties to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell: “I exercised terrible judgment in maintaining contact with them, and there is no excuse for failing to distance myself sooner,” he said. “I condemn the actions and the harm caused by Epstein and Maxwell and I feel deep sorrow for the pain they inflicted on their victims.” His statement acknowledges poor judgment in maintaining contact; it is not an admission to a criminal allegation. TIME’s report covers his resignation and statement.

Social contact, friendly wording, an invitation, or a calendar reference is not proof of the purpose of a meeting or of wrongdoing. The distinction matters especially when a message is quoted without its immediate follow-up, as in the 2018 exchange. A reporter’s summary can help explain a record, but it is not the same as the full contemporaneous context.

In April 2026, The Atlantic reported Virginia Giuffre’s allegation concerning Pritzker and Pritzker’s denial. The article reported that no criminal charges had been brought as of its publication. An allegation—even a sworn one—is not a court finding; a denial is not a finding either. The cited reporting establishes no criminal finding against Pritzker. The Atlantic’s account attributes both the allegation and the denial.
