Among the celebrities reported to have lost homes in the January 2025 Los Angeles-area fires were Paris Hilton, Billy and Janice Crystal, Mandy Moore, Cary Elwes, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Jhené Aiko, Tina Knowles, and Jeff Bridges’ family. The reports covered losses in Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Altadena. This is a list of reported cases, not an official or exhaustive count.

Which celebrities lost homes in the Los Angeles fires?

The fires began January 7, 2025. News reports published over the following days named people whose homes were lost, but accounts changed as residents learned whether their properties had survived. The table distinguishes direct public statements from losses attributed to representatives or news reporting.

Person Reported location What was reported Status and source
Paris Hilton Malibu Hilton described watching her home burn on live television and spoke about the family memories attached to it. Hilton’s public statement was quoted by Reuters on January 8; AP also reported the loss. Reuters, republished by Investing.com; AP.
Billy and Janice Crystal Pacific Palisades The couple said they had lived in the home since 1979 and raised their children and grandchildren there. They confirmed the loss in a statement reported by AP and The Guardian on January 8. AP; The Guardian.
Mandy Moore Altadena Early coverage said Moore had evacuated and did not yet know whether her home had survived; later coverage included the property among the losses. Status developed between the January 8 AP report and later roundup reporting. AP; Los Angeles Times.
Cary Elwes Malibu Elwes said his family evacuated safely and that they had lost their home. Direct statement quoted by The Guardian on January 8. The Guardian.
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag Pacific Palisades Montag said they lost their home; Pratt also confirmed that it burned down. The Los Angeles Times reported their public statements in its January 9 roundup, updated January 13. Los Angeles Times.
Jhené Aiko Pacific Palisades Aiko described her home as having burned to the ground. Her posts were reported by the Los Angeles Times in its January 9 roundup, updated January 13. Los Angeles Times.
Tina Knowles Malibu Her Malibu bungalow was reported lost. The Los Angeles Times attributed the loss to Knowles’ public statement in its roundup, updated January 13. Los Angeles Times.
Jeff Bridges’ family Malibu The family’s oceanfront residence was reported lost in the Palisades Fire. The Los Angeles Times said Bridges’ representative confirmed the loss to The Hollywood Reporter. Los Angeles Times.
Eugene Levy Pacific Palisades The Guardian reported his home had been incinerated. The Guardian’s January 8 report noted that Levy had not commented at that time; the report is not a direct confirmation from him. The Guardian.
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody Pacific Palisades An early Reuters report described the home’s ownership and destruction as reported, rather than confirmed directly by the couple. Treat this as a lower-certainty early report, not a direct confirmation. Reuters, republished by Investing.com.

Did Paris Hilton lose her home in the Los Angeles fires?

Yes. Hilton publicly described her Malibu home burning as she watched television with her family. Reuters quoted her writing: “Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience.” The quotation appeared in Reuters’ January 8 report, republished by Investing.com. Read the report.

Why do celebrity fire-loss lists differ?

Residents did not know immediately whether homes had survived

In the first days of the fires, some people had evacuated without being able to check their properties. AP’s January 8 report described Moore as uncertain about whether her home had survived; later reporting included her among those who lost homes. A list assembled early in the crisis therefore may omit losses confirmed later.

Evacuation does not mean a home burned

Jamie Lee Curtis evacuated, but The Guardian reported her saying her own home was safe even as her neighborhood suffered destruction. Her case illustrates why evacuation coverage should not be treated as proof of property loss. The Guardian’s report.

Reports vary in how directly a loss was confirmed

Some accounts rely on a person’s statement, some on a representative, and others on what a publication reported at that time. For example, the Los Angeles Times said Bridges’ representative confirmed the family-home loss to The Hollywood Reporter, while The Guardian reported Levy’s home lost but noted he had not commented then. Those distinctions matter when reading a roundup as a snapshot of reporting rather than a definitive property-damage register.

What the early and later reports establish

The AP’s January 8, 2025 article captured early reports and uncertainty. The Los Angeles Times published its roundup January 9 and updated it January 13 with additional names and status details. Together, these accounts show a changing picture, not a final official tally. None of the cited coverage establishes a complete count of celebrities whose homes were lost.

Billy and Janice Crystal’s reported loss underscores that these were personal homes, not just names in a roundup: their statement said they had lived in their Pacific Palisades home since 1979. AP quoted them saying, “Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away.” AP’s January 8 report.
