Only Man.” The post followed the June 14 No Kings demonstrations, held the same day as President Donald Trump’s birthday military parade. Musk did not explain what he meant, so claims that the post was aimed at Trump—or meant as an endorsement of the game’s fictional industrialist Andrew Ryan—remain interpretations, not established facts.
What Musk posted
Futurism reported that Musk shared a screenshot from the video game BioShock on X on June 16, 2025. The banner in the image reads, “No Gods or Kings. Only Man.” Musk added the caption, “Anyone else think of this yesterday?” Futurism’s report describes the post and its image.
The word “yesterday” points to June 14, 2025, when No Kings protests took place across the United States. They were scheduled on the same day as Trump’s birthday military parade. Musk’s post came two days later, not during the demonstrations.
What the No Kings protests were about
Organizers presented the June 14 protests as a counterpoint to Trump’s parade. Before the event, they called it a “nationwide day of defiance” and said participants were taking action “to reject authoritarianism,” according to Axios. Those phrases describe the organizers’ stated aims, rather than an independent assessment of every participant’s views.

Those figures were forecasts reported before the demonstrations, not verified final attendance totals. The No Kings site describes the movement’s events as nonpartisan and says participants are expected to act lawfully and nonviolently; those, too, are the organizers’ own descriptions.

Did Musk explain the message?
Not in the post quoted by Futurism. The caption asks whether others thought of the image the previous day, but does not say what Musk thought of the protests, Trump’s parade, or the slogan. Futurism raises the possibility that the post was a political jab at Trump, while also noting a possible reference to Andrew Ryan, the fictional industrialist who founded Rapture in BioShock. Neither reading is confirmed by the post.
The slogan itself belongs to the game’s fictional world. Applying it to the real-world protests may invite political interpretation, but the timing and image alone do not establish Musk’s intent.

How this differs from earlier “No Kings” protests
The June 14 demonstrations were not the first protests to use a “No Kings” theme in 2025. The Associated Press reported that the group 50501 organized Presidents Day protests on February 17 that criticized Trump and Musk. That earlier event is distinct from the June demonstrations held alongside Trump’s parade. The Associated Press report covers the February protests.
