Chuck Woolery, the original host of Wheel of Fortune and longtime host of Love Connection, has died at 83. The Associated Press reported that Woolery died at home in Texas with his wife, Kristen, present, citing his friend and podcast co-host Mark Young.
What happened to Chuck Woolery?
Young told the Associated Press that Woolery died at home in Texas with Kristen by his side. Forbes separately reported that Young told TMZ Woolery had experienced breathing trouble at home. That account describes a symptom, not a confirmed medical cause; the accounts cited here do not establish an official cause of death.
In an email to the Associated Press, Young wrote: “Chuck was a dear friend and brother and a tremendous man of faith, life will not be the same without him.”
Woolery was the original host of Wheel of Fortune
Wheel of Fortune debuted on NBC on January 6, 1975, with Woolery as host, according to the Associated Press. He was 33 and was trying to establish himself as a Nashville singer. His place in the show’s history began with that first version: he was its original host.
