Dead Boy Detectives is a Netflix supernatural mystery series about Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two teen ghosts who investigate cases for supernatural clients with help from clairvoyant Crystal Palace. Its first season has eight episodes. Netflix released the series in 2024; TVLine reported in August 2024 that it was canceled after one season.
What is Dead Boy Detectives about?
Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland are ghosts and best friends who run a detective agency focused on supernatural mysteries. Crystal Palace, a clairvoyant, helps them investigate cases. George Rexstrew plays Edwin, Jayden Revri plays Charles, and Kassius Nelson plays Crystal. Netflix describes the show as a fantasy mystery centered on the pair’s work for supernatural clients.
Steve Yockey developed the series for television and co-showruns it with Beth Schwartz. Netflix credits Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter as executive producers. Yockey’s description, quoted by Netflix Tudum, is: “Dead Boy Detectives is The Hardy Boys on acid.”
How many episodes are there, and where can you watch?
Netflix lists one season of eight episodes. The first is “The Case of Crystal Palace”; the finale is “The Case of the Hungry Snake.” Netflix is the official streaming destination identified for the series. Availability, audio, and subtitle choices can vary by country, so check the title in your local Netflix catalog for current options. Its catalog page lists a TV-MA rating; that and the displayed language options are catalog details, not a guarantee that every market presents the same listing.

Is Dead Boy Detectives based on a comic or on The Sandman?
The series is based on DC characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner and belongs to the characters’ broader Sandman-related comic history. It is not a direct adaptation of their first comic appearance. DC says Edwin and Charles first appear in The Sandman’s “Season of Mists” material; the Netflix season should not be treated as an adaptation of that story or of a particular collected edition.
Is Dead Boy Detectives getting a season 2?
TVLine reported on August 30, 2024, that Netflix canceled the series after its first season. Netflix’s title page lists season one. This is the latest dated status established here; it does not establish whether a later revival or rights change has occurred.

What comics should you read after the series?
DC lists two collected editions featuring the detectives. They are companion reading about the characters, not identified as the source material for season one. Choose based on whether you want a collection associated with their earlier appearances and subsequent comics, or a later Sandman Universe volume:
