In the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, Adamantium is said to be stronger than Vibranium. President Ross makes that claim in Captain America: Brave New World (2025). It is a statement within the film’s story, not the result of a published materials test—and it does not settle every comparison across Marvel continuities.
Which metal is stronger in the MCU?
For the current MCU movie answer, Adamantium wins: Ross says the Adamantium associated with the remains of the Celestial Tiamut is stronger than Vibranium. ComicBook.com’s account of the film’s changed Adamantium origin and TIME’s February 14, 2025 coverage report the claim.
That ranking is specific to the film’s story. The sources do not provide a measured strength value or laboratory comparison, so it should not be treated as a real-world materials test.
What does Avengers: Endgame show about the metals?
In Avengers: Endgame, Thanos’s blade breaks Captain America’s Vibranium shield. Screenwriter Christopher Markus described the blade’s material as stronger than Vibranium, according to ComicBook.com’s report on his commentary-track remarks, published August 6, 2019.

The blade’s substance is not identified in that account. Calling it Adamantium as a fact goes beyond what Markus’s statement establishes; its identity remains speculation.
Why “stronger” depends on what you compare
Resistance to breaking is not the same property as handling an impact. Comics comparisons commonly describe Adamantium as exceptionally durable, particularly for weapons, while Vibranium is associated with storing and dispersing kinetic energy. - Resistance to damage: A question about whether a blade or armor can break is not identical to one about what happens to the force of a blow.
- Intended use: A weapon, a defensive shield, and a material used in technology are not necessarily being judged by the same job.
- Material form: In film production commentary, Black Panther production designer Hannah Beachler described raw and alloyed forms of Vibranium and highlighted the expertise involved in shaping and applying it. The material’s form and fabrication matter to how it is depicted. ComicBook.com reported her comments from a set visit.
Keep MCU, comics, and earlier films separate
The 2025 MCU account ties Adamantium to Tiamut and presents it as a newly discovered resource. That differs from the comics account described in coverage, where Adamantium is a human-made alloy. The film’s origin and ranking should not be mixed with comics lore as if they were one continuous explanation. ComicBook.com’s February 18, 2025 report outlines the distinction.
Vibranium’s role also varies by context. Marvel’s official Japanese Avengers: Infinity War character page describes Captain America’s shield as Vibranium and as both a defensive tool and a weapon: Marvel / Disney Japan’s Captain America page. A shield’s on-screen performance is therefore not a complete test of every form or use of either fictional metal.

The practical verdict
If you mean the current MCU’s stated ranking, Adamantium is stronger than Vibranium. If you mean which metal is stronger across every Marvel movie, there is no fully established universal answer: the claim depends on continuity, material form, and what kind of strength is being compared. And while Endgame establishes that Thanos’s blade material can damage the shield, it does not identify that material.
