Astronomer confirmed their identities, said Byron had been placed on leave and that its board had begun a formal investigation. The footage shows an embrace; it does not establish the nature of their relationship.
What happened at the Coldplay concert?
On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Coldplay performed at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. A stadium jumbotron showed two people embracing. The Associated Press reported that Astronomer later confirmed to it that they were CEO Andy Byron and chief people officer Kristin Cabot.
During the segment, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” as reported by the AP. That remark was a joke, not evidence about the pair’s private relationship. The available footage establishes that they embraced in public; it does not establish more.
How the company responded
On Friday, July 18, Astronomer said Byron was on leave and that its board had initiated a formal investigation. The next day, the board announced that it had accepted his resignation. Astronomer said: “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.”

What the resignation did—and did not—confirm
The board’s action confirmed Byron’s departure from the CEO role and the company’s stated response to the incident. Astronomer said it had opened an investigation, but the cited reporting does not establish its findings. The resignation itself does not prove that an affair occurred, and online speculation should not be treated as confirmation of private details.
