If JioFiber disconnects while a YouTube video is playing in VLC, restoring the internet may not restart the video. First confirm the connection is back; then stop the failed item and open the YouTube link in VLC again. There is no documented, reliable VLC setting that automatically restores this exact YouTube session after an outage.
Why VLC may stay stopped after JioFiber reconnects
A network interruption can end the current playback session. When JioFiber comes back, that does not guarantee VLC or the remote service will recreate the session. A VideoLAN developer-list discussion describes a general RTSP case in which a client disconnects after receiving no data and the server may close its side too; it is not evidence about YouTube’s implementation, but it illustrates why restoring connectivity alone may not resume a stream (VideoLAN developer-list discussion, 2010).
VideoLAN’s support guidance is informal troubleshooting material and does not establish a specific auto-reconnect control for this situation (VideoLAN support).
Recover playback after the connection returns
- Verify JioFiber is working. Try opening a website or playing the same video in YouTube’s app or website. If practical, check another device on the same connection. YouTube recommends checking another device, changing the internet connection when possible, and replaying the video when troubleshooting playback (YouTube playback troubleshooting).
- Reopen the video in VLC. Stop the failed item, then open the YouTube link again. This is a practical recovery step, not a guaranteed automatic retry.
- If playback is still failing, compare devices. If YouTube also fails elsewhere, focus on the connection or service rather than VLC. If YouTube works elsewhere but VLC remains stopped, reopen the link in VLC.
Would a larger VLC network cache reconnect automatically?
No. A larger network cache may help with choppy playback during brief instability, but it does not restore a session that has already ended. A third-party VLC tutorial suggests increasing the cache for choppy streams; it does not test this JioFiber and YouTube scenario, so treat it as an experiment for buffering—not a reconnect fix (VLC cache tutorial).

Can you make VLC retry without supervision?
No official, reliable VLC setting for automatically restoring this exact YouTube session after a JioFiber outage is established here. Community posts describe workarounds, but they are not supported or guaranteed: one Stack Overflow answer uses Streamlink retry options inside a shell loop, while a Reddit user says repeat-one helped resume an online radio stream. Neither verifies automatic recovery for a YouTube video in VLC on your device (Streamlink retry discussion; VLC community discussion).
Troubleshoot by what still works
