PRISM Live Studio’s official desktop guidance reviewed here does not document a built-in setting that automatically reopens the app after a crash. YouTube’s encoder auto-start setting is different: it controls starting or stopping a stream from an encoder, not relaunching a crashed PRISM process. After any restart, check PRISM, its outgoing feed and YouTube Live Control Room separately; reopening the app alone does not confirm your broadcast is live.
Can PRISM automatically reopen and resume a YouTube stream?
PRISM’s official desktop guidance reviewed for this article does not document a native crash-watchdog or auto-relaunch control. It also does not establish a supported Windows or macOS watchdog procedure, launch arguments, or what recovery behavior to expect after a crash. Avoid treating a generic operating-system scheduler or third-party tool as a PRISM-endorsed fix.
There are three distinct events to consider: the PRISM application starts again, its encoder resumes sending video, and YouTube’s intended broadcast reaches the expected state. One does not guarantee the next. PRISM recommends checking the platform’s status from a separate device when it detects platform-side termination, then restarting the stream if needed. PRISM’s platform-termination guidance describes that separate verification.
What YouTube’s auto-start setting does—and does not do
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options concern starting or stopping a live stream from the encoder. YouTube’s help page says, “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” It does not describe reopening an encoder application that has crashed. So enabling YouTube auto-start may affect how an available encoder starts a broadcast; it is not a crash-relaunch mechanism. Keep the app, encoder connection and YouTube broadcast state as separate checks.
Prevent PRISM crashes before trying automation
PRISM’s FAQ lists possible crash causes and suggests corresponding checks:

- External plugins: Remove or disable a suspect plugin and see whether stability improves.
- Capture devices and drivers: Check connected devices and update relevant drivers.
- Graphics hardware or drivers: Check that the system meets PRISM’s hardware requirements and update graphics drivers where appropriate.
- Limited system memory: Close unnecessary programs while using PRISM. PRISM’s FAQ states, “If there is not enough system memory, we recommend turning off unnecessary programs while using PRISM Live Studio.”
These are preventive checks, not guarantees that a crash will not recur.
If PRISM is open but YouTube disconnects
A crash is not the same as an encoder-to-YouTube network interruption. PRISM’s desktop article identifies “Disconnected from server” error 57995 as a YouTube RTMP connection or stability problem. Possible causes include network instability, insufficient upload speed, weak Wi-Fi, or firewall and security software interference. Its error 57995 guidance recommends a wired connection and checking security software.

- Use Ethernet where practical instead of relying on a weak Wi-Fi signal.
- Check that upload capacity is sufficient for the stream, especially if other devices or apps are using the connection.
- Check whether firewall or security software is interfering with PRISM’s connection.
These steps address transmission stability; a wired connection cannot relaunch an application that has crashed.
Do not apply the regional 57998 workaround universally
PRISM’s separate “Failed to connect to the server” article covers error 57998. It describes IPv6 transition and ISP-infrastructure instability for certain users in India and Indonesia, and recommends IPv4 Only plus network optimization in those cases. This is a region-specific connection workaround, not a general crash-restart procedure. See PRISM’s error 57998 guidance.

Verify recovery in three places
- Confirm PRISM has reopened. Check that the application is running and responsive, rather than assuming a restart completed because a window appeared.
- Confirm the encoder is sending video. Check PRISM’s streaming state and whether its outgoing feed has resumed. A running process by itself does not prove a successful connection.
- Confirm the intended broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Check its status from YouTube, ideally using a separate device as PRISM advises after platform-side termination. If the intended broadcast is not in the expected state, use YouTube’s controls to start or restart it as appropriate.
PRISM’s FAQ also distinguishes an application crash from a stream ending automatically because of an unstable network, a deleted channel, or invalid streaming permission. PRISM’s mobile guidance notes that platform-side termination can occur for reasons such as policy or platform time limits; platform thresholds can vary or change. A broadcast ending is therefore not proof that PRISM crashed, and reopening PRISM does not necessarily restore a broadcast YouTube has terminated.
