Also inspect vMix’s network buffer and encoding load. The title alone does not identify an Airtel fault: the cause could be the upload path, local network, computer load or another factor.
Why is my vMix YouTube stream buffering on Airtel broadband?
Buffering means the stream is not reaching YouTube or viewers steadily enough, but it does not by itself identify where the problem lies. A plan’s advertised speed is not proof that the connection can sustain the stream’s required upload. Wi-Fi, other household traffic, router behavior, the route to YouTube, Airtel provisioning and vMix system load are all possible factors; without measurements, none can be singled out.
Start with the actual output settings and a realistic test rather than immediately changing broadband plans or buying equipment. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing before the live stream begins. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance also makes bitrate recommendations specific to codec, resolution and frame rate.
Match the vMix output to YouTube’s bitrate guidance
In vMix, note the output resolution and frame rate, selected encoder or codec, and video bitrate. Compare these with the YouTube recommendation for the same codec and output mode. The figures below are YouTube Help’s H.264 recommendations; the page’s publication year is not stated. YouTube also publishes separate AV1 and H.265 rows, so these H.264 figures should not be applied to those codecs.

These are encoder targets, not a guarantee that a particular Airtel connection can sustain them. For a cautious test, reduce resolution or frame rate and set the bitrate to the matching YouTube row. If delivery becomes stable, raise one setting at a time while monitoring upload behavior and YouTube stream health. Keep vMix’s stream size at the same aspect ratio as the content.
Test the upload path under realistic conditions
- Use the intended setup. Run an upload speed test from the streaming computer with the same wired or wireless connection you plan to use. YouTube specifically recommends a speed test to test upload bitrate.
- Recreate the show. Test with similar audio and motion to the planned stream. A representative private or unlisted test can expose problems that a static screen will not.
- Observe stability over time. A single speed-test result does not establish sustained performance for a full event. Compare results and YouTube stream-health messages during the test and, when possible, at the time of day the issue normally occurs.
- Change one variable at a time. Record the result after each bitrate, resolution or frame-rate change. This helps distinguish a bandwidth limit from an encoder or system problem.
Check vMix streaming quality and network buffer
Open the streaming quality settings in the vMix release installed on your computer. Labels and available options can differ between guide versions, so check the documentation matching your release. Review video bitrate, encode size, audio bitrate, encoder settings, network buffer and Strict CBR.

Network buffer
vMix says to increase the Network Buffer when the maximum network speed available is unreliable. The buffer is the maximum number of seconds of stream data vMix can keep buffered; increasing it can help absorb speed variation, but can also increase latency. Streaming servers and players add their own buffering. It does not increase upload speed or repair packet loss.
Strict CBR
Strict CBR attempts to keep streaming speed close to the selected bitrate and may reduce quality. Treat it as a configuration option to test, not a general cure for an upload bottleneck.

Check CPU and encoder load
Streaming requires compression, which uses computer resources as well as network capacity. During the test, watch CPU and GPU usage and note whether vMix becomes unresponsive or its performance degrades. vMix says CPU is primarily used for audio/video compression and is also used by recording and streaming.
If the computer has an NVIDIA graphics card, vMix suggests trying “Use Hardware Encoder” to reduce CPU use. This is a test, not a guarantee: results depend on the GPU, driver, project and installed vMix version. Compare stream stability and system load before and after changing it.

Use the results to narrow down the cause
- Lower output settings improve stability and the computer remains responsive: the upload path is a likely constraint. Repeat the test before concluding, and consider whether the wired or wireless path, other network use or time of day changes the result.
- Upload tests appear adequate, but vMix performs poorly even at lower bitrate: inspect CPU/GPU load and encoder settings.
- The stream still fluctuates despite a larger network buffer: the buffer cannot create bandwidth; compare sustained upload behavior and test the connection path rather than treating the buffer as a fix.
- No clear pattern appears: keep notes on output settings, test time, connection type, YouTube stream health and system load. The available details do not establish whether Airtel, the local network, the route to YouTube or the computer is responsible.
