First identify what actually stops: the current clip, the playlist sequence, or the YouTube broadcast. A playlist item set to a shorter duration can advance early; a media file may report the wrong duration; or vMix may have ended or lost the stream. Each has a different fix.
First determine what stopped
- The next item starts while the current clip still has content: check the PlayList item’s configured duration and mode.
- A single List input stops or skips files: check Auto Next, Loop, and disabled items.
- The current file itself ends early or shows an incorrect duration: compare its duration in vMix with playback outside the playlist, then consider only the decoder or indexing fix that matches its format and origin.
- YouTube Live ends or vMix reports a disconnect: check whether the stream was stopped in vMix and inspect its streaming log.
Check the vMix feature that is playing the media
PlayList: verify each item’s duration
In the PlayList, open the affected item’s settings and compare its configured starting position and duration with the expected clip. vMix defines Duration as how long the item runs before the playlist moves to the next item; a zero duration uses the input’s duration. A shorter configured duration can therefore look like a file ending prematurely even when playback is working as configured. Also check whether the PlayList is in Manual Mode. See vMix PlayList documentation.
List input: check automatic advancement and looping
If the files are in a List input rather than a PlayList of separate inputs, inspect Auto Next, Loop, and whether the affected item is disabled. The List guide says Auto Next is enabled by default. A disabled item may be skipped when disabled-item skipping is in use. Where the file format supports it, use the List’s remaining-time display to compare the expected and reported length. See vMix List documentation and vMix’s scheduling and automation guidance; vMix says it is primarily designed for live events and does not support time-of-day scheduling.
Check whether the media duration is actually wrong
Note the file type, its duration as shown in vMix, and whether it also ends early when opened outside the playlist. A playlist advancing early alone does not establish that a file is corrupt: its item’s configured duration may be the cause. If duration is wrong in vMix as well, use the format-specific options below rather than changing decoders indiscriminately.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
MP3 files with an incorrect duration
For an MP3 whose duration is reported incorrectly, vMix documents adding *.mp3 to the decoder list under Settings > Decoders > FFMPEG, then restarting vMix. This is a targeted decoder workaround for the MP3 duration issue, not a universal fix. If it does not help, restore the prior decoder setting.
MP4 compatibility issues
For an MP4 compatibility problem, vMix documents adding *.mp4 to the FFMPEG decoder list and restarting. The cited guidance specifies current software and 64-bit vMix; confirm that your setup fits that scope before applying it. As with the MP3 change, revert the setting if it does not resolve the matching issue. See vMix’s MP3 duration guidance and MP4 compatibility guidance.

FFMPEG MOV or MP4 recordings that play only a few seconds elsewhere
If the file is an FFMPEG MOV or MP4 recording made with vMix’s fault-tolerant recording option, and another program plays only the first few seconds or shows an incomplete editing timeline, vMix documents indexing it with the included vMix Video Tools utility. For future recordings, choose MOV (Indexed) or MP4 (Indexed) at recording time. This remedy is for that recording-and-playback case; it is not a general repair for every short playlist playback. See vMix’s recording and indexing guidance.
If the YouTube live broadcast itself ends
Distinguish a clip or list stopping from the broadcast terminating. vMix says that finishing the stream in vMix automatically ends it in YouTube. If the broadcast ended, check whether the stream was stopped in vMix before troubleshooting media duration. See vMix’s YouTube Live Stream Now setup article.

Inspect the streaming log for a disconnect
If vMix reports that the stream has disconnected, or its stream control changes state unexpectedly, inspect the latest log in C:ProgramDatavMixstreaming. The log guide describes real-time buffer problems during slow startup or network congestion, and disconnection messages that can point to a local internet outage, an internet provider outage or closure, or security software. Use the actual log errors to guide the next check rather than assuming the playlist caused the interruption. See vMix’s streaming log guide.
Escalate with useful evidence
If the checks do not isolate the problem, preserve the vMix version, file format and recording origin, duration shown in vMix, relevant PlayList or List settings, and the latest streaming log if the stream disconnected. vMix provides its knowledge base, documentation, email support, forums, and training videos through its support page.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the problem you are solving is keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running continuously, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. A slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not a camera-based live production. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
