You can start a YouTube live from an eligible Android phone, but YouTube’s mobile-live instructions do not establish a reliable, unattended 24/7 setup. There is also an archive limit: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use the phone workflow below to go live, but choose an encoder or cloud workflow if you need continuous playback—and clear the audio rights before broadcasting.
Can an Android phone run a 24/7 sleep-sounds livestream?
An Android phone can start a YouTube mobile livestream if the channel and device meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements. That is not the same as YouTube documenting a phone as a dependable unattended 24/7 playout system. YouTube’s mobile guidance covers going live from a mobile device; it does not specify whether an Android phone will stay connected, powered, cool, and streaming without interruption for a full day.
For mobile live, YouTube currently requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, live streaming enabled, and Android 8.0 or later. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s current mobile live streaming requirements before planning a broadcast.
Start a sleep-sounds live from the YouTube app
- Confirm eligibility. Make sure the channel meets YouTube’s subscriber, verification, restriction, and live-streaming requirements, and that the phone runs Android 8.0 or later. If this is the channel’s first mobile livestream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Open the live flow. In the YouTube app, tap Create, then Live.
- Enter the stream details. Add a title and the other details requested in the app. If you want to set a start time in advance, use the scheduling option in the mobile live flow.
- Review the audio and start. Confirm that the material is cleared for livestreaming, then start the live broadcast in the app. YouTube’s mobile live streaming instructions describe the app workflow.
This starts a mobile live; it does not verify that the phone can maintain an uninterrupted all-day broadcast. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify battery life, heat behavior, network stability, or how the app behaves in the background for this use. Do not rely on a single phone broadcast for continuous service without accounting for interruptions.

Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means one continuous 24-hour live is not a dependable way to create a complete replay. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Read its archive live streams guidance and decide whether you need a separate recording or shorter broadcasts.
Clear sleep audio before you go live
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the material remains, the broadcast can be interrupted or terminated. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube notes that a rights owner may need to add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist.

Before broadcasting, secure and document the rights for the exact audio and its intended live use. Consider whether those rights also cover an archived replay. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights; its copyright guidance for live streams explains how matching content can affect a broadcast.
Choose a workflow for continuous playback
Mobile live from the phone
This is the documented app-based route for going live from Android. It is appropriate when you meet the mobile requirements and can monitor the broadcast, but the cited guidance does not promise 24/7 unattended operation or automatic recovery after a drop.

Encoder or cloud-studio workflow
YouTube positions encoder streaming for advanced production and external audio/video hardware. Its encoder help page also names Upstream in the context of 24/7 live video. Treat that as a provider to investigate, not an endorsement or a guarantee: check any service’s current terms, continuity and recovery features, audio controls, and archive options before relying on it. Any workflow still needs rights-cleared audio.
