To run a 24/7 rain-and-thunder broadcast on YouTube, send a continuous audio-and-visual program through YouTube Live using an encoder—or upload a playlist to a cloud service that loops it for you. For a do-it-yourself setup, prepare audio and visuals you have rights to use, connect your encoder to YouTube with a stream key, then start the broadcast in Live Control Room. Plan around YouTube’s archive limit: streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured.
Choose how the stream will run
A continuous YouTube broadcast needs a source that keeps sending video and audio. You can run an encoder on a computer and manage the stream yourself, or use a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. These are operating approaches, not different YouTube destinations.
| Approach | What runs the program | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder on your computer | Your computer and encoder send the program to YouTube. | You control the setup, but the computer and its internet connection must stay available while it streams. |
| Cloud looping service | A service sends uploaded video to your YouTube channel. | The service handles continuous playback; you rely on its supported workflow and plan. |
YouTube documents encoder streaming; exact computer requirements depend on the encoder you choose. Check that encoder’s current system requirements rather than assuming a particular processor, camera, microphone, or capture card is necessary. A pre-produced ambience stream does not inherently require live camera or microphone input.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the playlist
Confirm that YouTube Live is available
YouTube says a channel must be verified, must not have a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check eligibility before building the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Use audio and visuals you have permission to stream
Use your own rain and thunder recordings, or obtain rights that cover both live streaming and any archived version. Check the license for the particular uses you intend, and retain records of permission. A video’s availability online does not establish that you can rebroadcast it.
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even licensed material can trigger a match, so ask the rights owner whether they can add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream terms also require providers to represent that they hold the necessary rights for live and archived material: YouTube Terms of Service and YouTube copyright guidance.

Make the program distinct if monetization matters
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate. A license, or the absence of a copyright claim, does not guarantee that a channel or stream qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams; its July 15, 2025 policy update uses “inauthentic content” for repetitive or mass-produced material, and reused content without meaningful original contribution can also be ineligible. Build a soundscape and visual treatment with a clear original contribution instead of minimally changing another creator’s work. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and current YouTube Partner Program eligibility information.
Start the stream with an encoder
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key to connect the encoder to Live Control Room. Interface labels can change; use the current controls shown in YouTube Studio and your encoder.

- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live. Create or schedule a stream and set its title, visibility, and other broadcast details.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Configure the encoder. Choose the stream destination or custom ingest option in your encoder, then enter the YouTube server URL and key. Select the audio-and-visual program you prepared. For a playlist, arrange the clips or rendered program in the order you want them played and enable looping if your encoder supports it. Follow the encoder’s own current requirements for output settings; YouTube’s connection steps do not establish one universal bitrate or resolution for every encoder and source.
- Send the feed, then go live. Start streaming from the encoder. Wait for the incoming feed and preview in Live Control Room, check that audio and video are present, then use the YouTube control to start the public broadcast. Starting the encoder feed and starting the YouTube broadcast are separate actions.
- Monitor the session. Check the preview and stream status after launch, and confirm that the audio is looping as intended. Keep access to the encoder and connection available so you can respond if the feed stops.
YouTube’s official encoder instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Plan for archives and session handoffs
“24/7” describes the intended programming, not a guarantee that a single YouTube session will run or archive indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be archived automatically; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the recording matters, schedule sessions below 12 hours and record a local backup. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Shorter sessions introduce restarts. The platform guidance does not promise a seamless handoff between separate broadcasts, so test the restart process before relying on it for continuous programming. Account for the possibility of a brief interruption, and keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy regardless of what YouTube archives.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream. | The channel is not verified, has a recent streaming restriction, or does not meet YouTube’s age requirement. | Review the channel’s live-stream eligibility and any restrictions in YouTube Studio before changing encoder settings. |
| Live Control Room does not show an incoming preview. | The encoder is not sending, or the server URL or stream key was entered incorrectly. | Confirm the encoder is running and compare its destination and key with the current stream setup in Live Control Room. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. |
| The preview appears, but the broadcast is not public. | The encoder feed has started, but the broadcast has not been started in Live Control Room, or its visibility is not what you intended. | Check the stream’s visibility and use the Live Control Room control to start the broadcast after confirming the preview. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced. | YouTube may have detected third-party content, or the incoming feed may have stopped. | Check for YouTube copyright notices and encoder status. Use cleared material; if it is licensed and matched, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. |
| A long session has no archive. | A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. | Use sessions under 12 hours when you need a platform archive, and record locally for an additional copy. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the program in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only, and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
