To reduce OBS disconnects during a long YouTube playlist stream, first check whether OBS is actually dropping network frames, then set a video bitrate your upload connection can sustain, run a test stream, and troubleshoot the network in a controlled order. A playlist-specific OBS setting that guarantees a continuous connection is not established; the steps below diagnose common causes and reduce risk, but cannot guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
First, identify what is failing
While streaming, check OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frame counter, and check YouTube’s stream-health status and messages. OBS guidance says dropped frames and intermittent disconnections generally point to an unstable or insufficient connection between your computer and the remote ingest server. That symptom alone does not show that the playlist caused the failure.
Distinguish network-dropped frames in OBS from buffering reported by viewers. If viewers report buffering but OBS shows no dropped frames, investigate viewer playback or delivery separately rather than assuming OBS disconnected.
Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
Check your upload speed, then compare it with the video bitrate configured in OBS. OBS’s troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, suggests using about 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for video bitrate. This is a troubleshooting rule of thumb—not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee. A brief speed-test peak also does not prove your connection can sustain that rate throughout a long stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Run an upload-speed check on the same connection and network setup you plan to stream with.
- In OBS, open Settings > Output and inspect the video bitrate in the streaming output settings. If it is too high for your stable upload capacity, reduce it.
- Run a test stream and observe whether OBS continues to report dropped frames or connection interruptions.
Run a YouTube preflight before the playlist
YouTube recommends testing before a live stream. Use audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, then review YouTube’s stream-health status and messages. A representative test can reveal a weak connection or configuration issue before you commit to a long playlist session. YouTube’s guidance is: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
Work through network causes in order
Try Ethernet if you are on Wi-Fi
OBS recommends trying a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. Treat this as a diagnostic change, not proof that Wi-Fi was the only cause: router, cable, ISP, or route-to-ingest problems can still remain. OBS does not specify a cable category.

Review OBS network options cautiously
In OBS, open Settings > Advanced > Network. Keep Bind to IP set to Default. OBS lists network optimizations and TCP pacing as Windows-only options that some users report can help. You can test IPv4-only, but if it makes no difference, restore the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting.
Dynamic bitrate can respond to congestion by lowering bitrate, but it is a fallback rather than a root-cause fix, and it reduces video quality while doing so. Change one option at a time and compare the results of a test stream.

Isolate software and equipment
- Temporarily test whether a VPN or network-optimization utility is interfering with the connection.
- Check security software rules for OBS. If you temporarily disable protection to diagnose a problem, re-enable it afterward and add an OBS exception if the test indicates that is needed.
- Check whether network drivers are outdated.
- Inspect or test the router, modem, network cable, network interface, and other network devices. Replace hardware only when a test points to a fault.
Contact your ISP if the local checks do not resolve it
Connection congestion or routing changes may be outside your control. If the problem persists, contact your ISP and provide the times and symptoms; this can help distinguish a local setup issue from a connection or route problem.
Keep a useful record if it happens at a particular runtime
If the disconnect appears only after a repeatable length of time, record the runtime and the evidence around each incident rather than attributing it to the playlist itself. Note OBS log symptoms, dropped-frame counts, configured bitrate, whether you used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and YouTube’s stream-health messages. Repeating a preflight with those observations can help narrow down which part of the connection is failing.
