For a Kannada bhajan playlist with a static or slow-moving visual, a practical OBS starting point is 720p at 30 fps, H.264 with CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Match the video bitrate to your sustained upload speed: YouTube recommends 3–8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30, plus about 20% upload headroom for the total stream bitrate. Test the complete playlist and confirm you have permission to stream every recording before going public.
Set a stable starting profile
For an audio-led stream, 720p30 is a bandwidth-conscious baseline. Thirty frames per second is a practical choice for a static image or slow devotional visual; it is a recommendation for this use, not a special YouTube requirement. Use progressive scan, square pixels and Rec. 709 color for SDR.

These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that your computer or network will deliver a stable stream. YouTube advises roughly 20% upload headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Include audio and any other outgoing stream data when assessing capacity, and use sustained upload performance rather than a brief peak. On a shared or variable connection, start toward the lower end of the video-bitrate range and test.
Choose 720p or 1080p based on the visual and connection
A static devotional image usually does not need a high-resolution stream. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, so sending 1080p is not necessary just to provide viewers with lower-resolution choices.

Both bitrate ranges are YouTube recommendations from its live encoder-settings guidance, accessed in 2026. Pick a specific bitrate inside the relevant range only after checking that your real connection can sustain it with the recommended headroom. If you see instability, lower the video bitrate or resolution and test again.
Build and check the playlist scene in OBS
Use Media Source for one file
For a single track, add a Media Source and select the file. OBS documents support for common audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. Make sure the source’s audio is routed to the mixer and that its meter moves during playback.

Use VLC Video for multiple files
- Install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC; otherwise the VLC source may not be available.
- In your scene, add a VLC Video source and add the playlist files.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want the tracks to play in listed order. Enable Loop Playlist if the sequence should repeat. OBS documents loop as on and shuffle as off by default.
- Add an image or other visual source to the scene, then position and size it in the preview.
- Play through the beginning, a track transition, the final item and the repeat point. Check that the audio mixer meter moves and the visual remains as intended.
OBS describes VLC Video as supporting playlists in a way comparable to an image slideshow. Its Media Sources documentation is dated 2022-01-11, and its Quick Start Guide is dated 2021-08-25. OBS recommends a short test before a first broadcast; use the real audio and a similar visual rather than testing with silence or an unrelated scene.
Connect OBS to YouTube and test before going public
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream configuration. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Choose the YouTube service and an RTMPS endpoint if OBS offers one.
- Start a private or unlisted test if that fits your channel workflow. Check the incoming preview, sound, image and YouTube stream-health status before starting the public event.
- During the broadcast, watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and OBS’s dropped-frame indicators.
Enable live streaming before the event date: YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. In YouTube’s live settings, normal latency is a sensible default for a playlist with little audience interaction. Lower latency can help interaction feel more immediate, but can increase buffering. DVR lets viewers pause and resume the live stream; decide whether that behavior fits the event.

Clear music rights before streaming
Technical compatibility does not grant permission to broadcast a recording. Confirm that you have rights or permission for both the sound recording and the composition as applicable. A devotional, traditional or freely accessible track is not automatically cleared for a livestream, and permission for one version does not necessarily cover another recording. The rights status of any particular Kannada bhajan depends on its actual rights holder and license.

Troubleshoot the common failures
