Is Dragon Ball Super coming back?
Yes. At the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan on January 25, 2026, Toei Animation announced two distinct projects. One revisits the existing anime’s Beerus story with extensive changes; the other continues the story after the anime’s Universe Survival Arc. The announcements were made in 2026, not 2025. Toei’s Beerus announcement and its Galactic Patrol announcement set out the projects’ different purposes and status.
What is Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol?
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is the new continuation. Toei says it is in production and follows the anime’s Universe Survival Arc, which aired from 2015 to 2018. The story corresponds to the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc in the Dragon Ball Super manga. Goku and Vegeta team up with the Galactic Patrol, described as the galaxy’s peacekeepers, to face Planet-Eater Moro. The official announcement credits Akira Toriyama for original work, story, and character design.
The announcement names this arc, but does not say the anime will adapt the later Granolah story. It also gives no premiere date, episode count, or international broadcast or streaming plan. The manga arc is a companion option for readers who want to explore the story; its connection to the anime does not mean a new tie-in volume was announced. Is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus a remake or a new season?
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is Toei’s “ENHANCED” edition of the existing Dragon Ball Super TV anime—not the newly announced continuation. Toei describes extensive new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of footage, newly recorded dubbing, added score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. Its stated aim is to reproduce Akira Toriyama’s original work more faithfully and in greater detail, with particular attention to battle scenes. Toriyama is credited for original work, story, and character design. Toei’s announcement describes the changes.

When does Dragon Ball Super: Beerus come out?
The official Dragon Ball Super: Beerus website, updated September 3, 2026, schedules its first episode for Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 11:15 p.m. Japan time. This is a Japan premiere date, not a confirmed worldwide release date. The page mentions streaming but does not identify a service or confirm territories. The date remains upcoming as of October 4, 2026. The official website update gives the schedule.

What the 2026 trailer shows—and what it doesn’t confirm
The Dragon Ball Official Site reported on April 20, 2026, that the SUPER GEKITOU trailer was unveiled at DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour 2026 in Los Angeles. The report describes new Beerus-versus-Goku battle footage and a closing appearance by Frieza. Those are promotional images; the trailer report does not establish additional plot details or change the announced premiere schedule. The official trailer report covers the footage.
