Scheduling a YouTube event does not, by itself, tell OBS which media playlist to play or when to switch it. For one channel with broadcasts at different times, you can reuse an encoder stream configuration, but you must handle OBS media selection separately.
How the YouTube and OBS schedules fit together
Think of this as two separate jobs:
- YouTube Studio creates or schedules the live event, its watch page and reminder opportunity.
- OBS sends the live audio and video feed to YouTube and determines which media source is playing.
YouTube Help says, “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” Its scheduled-event instructions have you start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then click Go live. They do not describe a scheduled YouTube event selecting a different OBS playlist. Treat the event calendar and OBS media playback as independent unless you have separately configured and verified an automation method.
Set up different broadcasts at different times on one channel
1. Schedule each YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create or schedule the first event. Set its title, description, visibility and start time as appropriate.
- Repeat for each broadcast that needs its own event. Scheduling gives viewers a shareable event URL and lets them receive reminders. Keep each event’s intended playlist and start time documented for whoever operates OBS.
2. Connect OBS to the intended YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the event, locate the YouTube Live server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream and configure the YouTube connection with the event’s server and key, following YouTube’s encoder instructions. A stream key is sensitive: do not publish it or include it in a recording.
- When it is time to broadcast, start the encoder from OBS, confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room, then click Go live for the scheduled event as prompted by YouTube’s workflow.
Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes reusing a stream configuration for broadcasts at different times on one channel as a common use case. That means you may not need a wholly new encoder configuration for every event; it does not mean the event schedule changes OBS’s media source for you. Check the event and key shown in Studio before going live.
3. Choose and operate the media in OBS
OBS’s guide identifies Media Source and VLC Video Source as sources for video and audio files. Configure the source or sources for the playlist you intend to play, then verify the correct content and audio in OBS before starting the event. If you use a single OBS setup for several events, an operator can select the appropriate source or scene manually between broadcasts.

The reviewed official documentation does not establish an OBS-native clock scheduler that binds a different playlist to each scheduled YouTube event. If you want automatic time-based switching, you will need a separately configured and tested method compatible with your operating system and OBS version. Do not assume that creating events in YouTube Studio is that method.
Choose the workflow for your channel setup

Check capacity before running simultaneous feeds
OBS says the GPU renders and composites scenes, and its performance guidance recommends reducing workload, simplifying scenes, or considering lower output settings when encoding is overloaded. That is general guidance, not a guarantee that any given PC can handle multiple simultaneous encodes.

- Test the actual number of feeds, scenes and media sources you plan to run.
- Check each feed’s resolution, frame rate and encoder settings, plus available upload capacity and operating-system behavior.
- Watch for OBS encoding or rendering overload, dropped frames and unstable output during a realistic test before relying on the setup for a scheduled broadcast.
Playlist endings, archives and event endings
A playlist reaching its final item is not documented as a signal that automatically stops the encoder or ends the YouTube event. Decide what OBS should do at the end of the playlist—such as stop, loop, or transition—and verify that behavior in your setup. YouTube Help states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when encoder content stops. That condition should not be generalized to streams lasting 12 hours or longer.
Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
- The event is scheduled, but viewers do not see the intended playlist. The event schedule does not select OBS media. Check the active OBS scene and source, then confirm the preview in Live Control Room before going live.
- The preview does not appear. Check that OBS is sending to the intended YouTube Live server URL and stream key, and that the encoder is started. Follow the scheduled-event sequence: start the encoder, wait for the preview, then click Go live.
- The wrong channel receives the feed. Verify the channel and stream configuration in YouTube Studio and OBS. Google specifies a different stream configuration for each channel.
- OBS struggles when two feeds run at once. Reduce scene complexity or output workload and test again. Capacity is system-dependent; a setup that works for one feed may not handle concurrent encoding.
- The archive does not appear as expected. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours when encoder content stops. It does not establish what happens to streams at or beyond that duration, nor does playlist completion alone establish that the encoder stopped.

How do I schedule different playlists on one OBS PC?
Schedule each YouTube event in Studio, then separately select or configure the intended media source in OBS; the event schedule does not make that selection.

Can OBS switch playlists automatically for scheduled YouTube streams?
The official OBS and YouTube guidance cited here does not document a built-in clock scheduler that maps playlists to YouTube events. Any separate automation needs validation for your OBS version and operating system.
