If you reset the YouTube stream key, copy the current key from YouTube Studio into your encoder. If you changed your Google account password, use the encoder’s sign-in or reauthorization flow if it asks; YouTube does not say that changing the account password always invalidates an encoder connection. Then verify the server URL and check the encoder and network for errors.
Identify what “encoder password” means
People may mean either the YouTube stream key entered in an encoder or the Google account password used by software connected to YouTube. They are different credentials and need different fixes. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” See YouTube’s guide to managing live stream settings.
If you changed or reset the stream key
The stream key is the credential the encoder uses to send a feed to YouTube. When a key is reset, the encoder must use the new one. An old saved key can prevent the encoder from connecting to the intended stream.
If you changed your Google account password
An encoder connected through a YouTube sign-in may need you to sign in again, but changing the Google password does not necessarily invalidate every encoder authorization. If the software requests it, follow its reauthentication steps and check that it is connected to the intended YouTube channel. YouTube directs users with account-login problems in third-party streaming software to the software provider; the exact process depends on the encoder. See YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance.

Replace a reset stream key in the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Stream tab in Live Control Room.
- Copy the current stream key shown for the stream you intend to use. YouTube’s documented fix for a third-party encoder startup error is to copy the key from Studio, paste it into the encoder, and start the encoder. See YouTube’s troubleshooting steps.
- In the encoder, replace the saved key with the current one. Check that the server URL is the intended YouTube URL, then save or apply the settings.
- Start the encoder and check whether its local preview and YouTube Live Control Room show the expected feed.
Treat the stream key as sensitive: do not include it in screenshots, logs, or public support posts. It functions as the credential for sending a feed to the selected stream.
Check the connection URL and protocol
If the key is current but the encoder reports a connection failure, compare its server URL with the one shown in Live Control Room. For an RTMPS error, check that the URL uses rtmps, not rtmp, and confirm that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube suggests trying port 443 for SSL errors. Use the URL and settings applicable to your stream rather than substituting a guessed address. See YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance for live stream errors.

If the stream still stops
- Update the encoder. Check for and install an available update, then try connecting again.
- Inspect the local preview and encoder errors. A problem visible in the local preview points toward the encoder or its input; note any reported errors before changing settings.
- Check CPU load. High processor use can interfere with encoding. Close unnecessary workloads and see whether the encoder’s errors or preview improve.
- Test the outbound connection. If the local picture and sound look healthy but YouTube is not receiving a usable feed, investigate the computer’s connection to the internet and any network restrictions.
- Try another encoder if the issue persists. YouTube suggests testing a different encoder or reporting the problem. A different encoder can help distinguish an application-specific fault from a broader connection or account issue. See YouTube’s troubleshooting steps for encoder issues.
