If OBS reconnects but your YouTube stream has sound and no picture, first find where the video disappears: check the OBS preview, a local recording from the affected period, and YouTube Live Control Room. A successful reconnect alone does not confirm that OBS resumed sending video or that YouTube is receiving it. The right fix depends on which check fails; there is no universal reconnect reset documented for this exact symptom.
First, locate where the video disappears
- Check the OBS preview. Is the intended scene visible, and are its video sources active? If the preview is black or missing a source, investigate OBS before changing YouTube settings.
- Check a local recording from the affected period, if available. If it also lacks video, the problem is likely in the scene, capture source, or video output path. If it contains video, OBS produced a picture locally; continue to YouTube’s ingest checks.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Inspect the stream preview, health indicator, and timestamped errors. These show what YouTube is receiving and can distinguish a missing video stream from a keyframe-frequency problem.
Keep any local recording and OBS logs covering the reconnect. They help establish whether the fault began in the source or encoder, or between the encoder and YouTube.
| What you see | What it suggests | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS preview and local recording both lack video | The scene, source, capture device, or video output path may not be producing a picture. | Check source visibility and device state, then review OBS encoder/output errors and system load. |
| OBS preview and local recording show video, but YouTube does not | The issue may be in the outgoing video stream, its settings, or delivery to YouTube. | Read Live Control Room’s timestamped health messages; check encoder settings and network evidence. |
| YouTube reports no video stream | YouTube is not detecting video in the incoming stream, even if audio arrives. | Verify that OBS is actually sending video after reconnecting; consult the OBS output/logs and configured protocol. |
| YouTube reports incorrect keyframe frequency | The incoming video’s keyframe cadence does not meet the indicated requirement. | Check the encoder’s keyframe interval against YouTube’s guidance for the selected protocol. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or intermittent disconnections | The connection to the ingest server may be unstable or unable to sustain the selected bitrate. | Investigate bitrate and network path before changing capture sources or replacing hardware. |
If OBS preview or the local recording has no video
Check the scene and video source
- Confirm the intended scene is selected and the video source is visible and enabled.
- If the source is a camera, capture device, or screen capture, check that it is still active and available to OBS.
- Look for encoder errors and high CPU load. YouTube recommends checking the encoder directly and checking a local archive for audio/video problems.
If the OBS preview is already black, restarting YouTube ingest settings will not restore a picture that OBS itself is not producing. Correct the source or output issue, then confirm video in the preview and a fresh local recording before relying on the live output.
If OBS and the local recording have video but YouTube does not
Use Live Control Room errors to choose the correction
Read the exact, timestamped warning rather than guessing at a reconnect fix. YouTube documents an error for an ingestion stream with no video and a separate error for incorrect video keyframe frequency. The first calls for checking whether OBS is sending video at all; the second points to keyframe cadence.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check that the configured protocol and audio/video codecs are supported for your stream configuration. YouTube’s recommendations vary by protocol and setup, so use its current encoder settings for the one selected rather than applying a codec list as a universal preset.
Check bitrate and keyframes
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, with no more than 4 seconds between keyframes. If Live Control Room reports a keyframe error, correct that setting in the encoder and verify the next stream’s health. A keyframe adjustment is not a general remedy for a no-video-stream warning.

If the evidence points to a network problem
When OBS’s preview and local recording are healthy but the outgoing stream is unstable, check OBS for dropped frames and intermittent disconnections. The OBS Project guide says these indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server. YouTube also recommends checking outbound internet when encoder output appears healthy.
- Try a stable lower video bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the configured rate.
- Use service/server isolation tests and review network configuration to identify whether the path to the ingest server is at fault.
- If you are on Wi-Fi and the evidence suggests instability, test a wired Ethernet connection. OBS recommends wired connectivity for streaming; Wi-Fi is a possible cause, not proof of the cause.
- Restarting a modem or router is relevant when the checks indicate a network issue. Replacing network equipment should not be the first response to a YouTube no-video error.
Make a controlled test before the next important stream
- Start a test stream with audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast.
- Watch OBS’s preview and output indicators, then inspect YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and stream health.
- Check the timestamped warnings and confirm that the local archive contains both audio and video.
- Keep the relevant OBS logs and recording if the problem returns, noting the OBS version, operating system, ingest protocol, and whether local video is present.
YouTube Help advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”

What not to reset without evidence
Do not change or reset your YouTube stream key just because the stream came back audio-only. YouTube’s key guidance applies to encoder-start or key errors; a key change is not established as a fix for missing video during an otherwise connected live stream. Use the actual error message to decide what to change.
