For a 720p YouTube Live stream, set H.264 video to 8 Mbps or AV1/H.265 video to 6 Mbps, use constant bitrate (CBR), and set a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube gives those same recommended bitrates for 30 and 60 fps. Before streaming Kannada songs, secure rights for the live broadcast and intended territories; a 24-hour stream may not be archived by YouTube.
Recommended 720p encoder settings
These are YouTube’s live-ingestion recommendations, not its separate recommendations for uploading prerecorded videos. Match the frame rate to your source material; an album cover with audio usually has little practical need for 60 fps, though that is a production choice rather than a special YouTube rule.
| Setting | Recommended value | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280 × 720 at 30 or 60 fps | Choose the frame rate that matches the source. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations are the same at either frame rate. |
| Video codec and bitrate | H.264: 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum | Use the H.264 recommendation if that is your encoder’s selected codec. |
| Video codec and bitrate | AV1 or H.265: 6 Mbps recommended; 2 Mbps minimum | Use these figures only when your encoder and workflow support the selected codec. |
| Bitrate mode | CBR | Select constant bitrate in the encoder. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds | Set the encoder’s keyframe or GOP interval if the control is available. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; 128 Kbps for stereo in YouTube’s advanced recommendations | Choose a supported audio codec and set stereo bitrate where your encoder exposes it. |
| Protocol | RTMP or RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709 | Use for an SDR video signal. |
YouTube detects encoder settings automatically by default. For manual resolution selection, use a custom stream key and the manual stream-resolution option in YouTube’s live setup. YouTube transcodes the incoming live feed into formats for different devices and network conditions. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance when configuring your particular encoder.
Set up the stream and test it before going public
- Prepare the source. Confirm the video is 720p and decide whether 30 or 60 fps matches it. For a mostly static cover image, 30 fps is generally sufficient as a practical choice.
- Configure the encoder. Select a supported codec, enter its recommended bitrate from the table, choose CBR, set a 2-second keyframe interval, and configure AAC or MP3 audio. Use RTMPS where available.
- Connect to YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a live stream and use the stream URL and stream key shown there in your encoder. A stream key is a credential for sending the feed: keep it private and reset it if compromised. YouTube explains stream-key management in its stream settings guidance.
- Run a private or unlisted test first. Check that the preview appears, the audio is clear, the image is moving as intended, and YouTube reports healthy stream status. YouTube advises testing with representative audio and video movement before starting the live broadcast.
- Monitor the live feed. Watch stream-health messages and verify sound and picture during the broadcast. These checks reduce avoidable configuration problems but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.
Plan enough upload bandwidth
The encoder sends data upstream, so upload capacity—not download speed—is the important connection figure. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Account for other people and devices sharing the connection, and test the actual outbound connection under the conditions in which you plan to stream. If you send primary and backup feeds, YouTube recommends allowing for both bitrates plus 20% headroom.

For instance, an 8 Mbps H.264 video feed also needs audio and network overhead. Do not treat an internet plan’s advertised download speed as proof that the upload connection can sustain the broadcast. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth, testing and monitoring.
Clear music rights before broadcasting Kannada songs
Kannada-language content follows the same live-stream copyright rules as music in any other language. You need rights that cover the live use and the territories where viewers may watch; check whether permission also covers an archive or replay. Music rights can involve artists, labels, publishers and other rights participants. Keep documentation of permissions and confirm their scope rather than assuming that a license for an ordinary upload or another platform covers a live broadcast.

- Content ID can interrupt a stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material. If it detects a match, it may replace the image with a placeholder and warn you; continued use can result in interruption or termination.
- A license may not prevent an interruption by itself. YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Coordinate this with the relevant rightsholder before going live.
- “Free” does not automatically mean cleared for live use. YouTube says Creator Music licenses and revenue-sharing tracks are for long-form videos and cannot be used in live streams. Its safer options include original music, the YouTube Audio Library, or third-party music with a license expressly allowing the planned live use.
Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and safe-music guidance, then verify permission for every track in your planned playlist. No encoder setting can substitute for music clearance.
Choose an archive plan for a stream longer than 12 hours
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That makes the automatic archive unsuitable as the only copy of a continuous 24-hour broadcast. If viewers need a replay, arrange local recording and verify the resulting files, or divide the schedule into shorter sessions under 12 hours. YouTube does not require scheduled breaks; the shorter-session approach is a practical response to its archive threshold. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

For a noninteractive listening stream, very low latency may not be important. YouTube notes that lower latency can bring more buffering and matters less when the broadcaster is not interacting with viewers. Consider whether live chat interaction or DVR pause-and-resume behavior matters to your audience before choosing latency and DVR settings. See YouTube’s latency and DVR guidance.
Choose how to keep the broadcast running
A software encoder is a valid starting point if you have a dependable computer and connection. YouTube also lists hardware and cloud options; their listing does not establish that any one option is necessary, currently available in every region, or right for every channel.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- YouTube preview is blank or no stream arrives: Check that the encoder is using the current stream URL and stream key, that the key has not been reset, and that the encoder is actually sending. Keep the key private.
- Stream health reports unstable or viewers buffer: Check actual upload capacity, reduce competing network use, and leave the recommended 20% headroom. Confirm that the configured bitrate does not exceed available upload bandwidth.
- Video looks poor or motion breaks up: Confirm the correct 720p source and frame rate, codec and bitrate. Check for accidental use of upload rather than live-ingestion recommendations, and verify CBR and keyframe settings.
- Audio is missing or distorted: Verify the encoder’s audio source, supported AAC or MP3 codec, and stereo configuration; test the actual program audio before the public stream.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Stop using the disputed material until rights and any required Content ID allowlisting are confirmed. A warning or license document alone does not guarantee that a live match will be cleared automatically.
- No replay appears after a long broadcast: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Check any local recording and use shorter sessions if a YouTube archive is important.
