“Insufficient video data” is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It does not by itself prove your bitrate is too low. Check YouTube’s stream health and OBS Statistics to find out whether the problem is unstable transmission, local rendering pressure, or encoding overload. YouTube’s recommended 4K/2160p at 60 fps bitrate is 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 50 Mbps for H.264—but a configured bitrate only helps if your connection and computer can sustain the stream.
What YouTube’s warning does—and does not—tell you
The message means YouTube is not receiving a healthy stream, but it does not identify the failing component. A connection that cannot sustain the outgoing bitrate, an overloaded encoder, GPU rendering pressure, or a delivery-path problem can all merit investigation. Start with the indicators rather than changing settings at random.
Before adjusting anything, note your output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, OBS Statistics, YouTube stream-health messages, and whether your encoder sends directly to YouTube or through a relay. The actual cause cannot be established without those details.
Check YouTube’s 4K60 encoder settings
YouTube Help’s current encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, gives these incoming-stream bitrate settings for 4K/2160p at 60 fps. The values vary by codec; they are not a guarantee that your internet connection can deliver them reliably.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Video codec | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
For other relevant ingest settings, YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. The listed video codecs are H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. Its 4K/2160p option for improving latency is unavailable, so these streams use normal latency. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current guidance.
YouTube’s advice is to “choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” Test upload capacity before an event rather than assuming a speed-test peak will remain available throughout a broadcast.

Use the indicators to choose the right troubleshooting branch
| What you see | Likely area to investigate | Useful next test |
|---|---|---|
| Network-dropped frames or unstable transmission | Upload capacity, network stability, or delivery path | Compare sustained upload stability with your configured bitrate; pause competing uploads and lower data demand if needed. Try wired Ethernet if Wi-Fi instability is suspected. |
| Encoding lag or an encoding-overloaded message | Local encoding workload | Lower output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is failing, test at 30 fps. |
| Rendering lag | GPU/rendering pressure, game load, or complex OBS scenes | Limit the game’s frame rate, reduce graphics load, and simplify scenes, sources, or filters. |
| OBS indicators look healthy but YouTube stream health remains poor | Output settings, ingest path, relay, or a cause these indicators do not distinguish | Compare settings with YouTube’s current table and, where practical, test a direct, stable path. More diagnostics are needed to identify the cause. |
These indicators guide troubleshooting; none proves a unique cause on its own. OBS explains that it needs GPU time to composite and render scenes, and that resource pressure can cause choppy output or encoding-overloaded messages. See OBS’s encoding performance troubleshooting guide.
If the indicators point to the network
Check sustained capacity, not just a peak speed
Compare your configured video bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for your codec, resolution, and frame rate. Then check whether the connection can sustain that rate while other household or production traffic is active. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and choosing a quality the connection can reliably sustain.

Reduce network demand and isolate instability
- Pause or reschedule competing uploads and other high-bandwidth activity.
- If transmission remains unstable, reduce the configured bitrate or output quality enough to run another test.
- If you suspect Wi-Fi instability, try wired Ethernet as a diagnostic test. It will not fix local rendering or encoding overload.
If you use a multistream service or relay, inspect both the encoder-to-relay feed and the onward path. A relay adds another segment to check; its presence alone does not establish that it caused the warning. A third-party troubleshooting guide also suggests Ethernet as a conditional test, not as a guaranteed fix: Epiphan’s guide to the “insufficient video data” message.

- Limit the frame rate of a game being captured and reduce its graphics settings to free GPU resources.
- Reduce the stream’s output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is not working, test 30 fps.
- Simplify OBS scenes and remove or reduce resource-heavy sources and filters.
Retest after each relevant change and compare the indicators. Lowering resolution or frame rate can ease local workload, but it does not increase the connection’s upload capacity.

- Record the baseline. Write down the current output settings and note OBS Statistics and YouTube stream-health messages.
- Recreate the real workload. Run a private or otherwise appropriate test with audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube recommends testing before going live.
- Choose a branch from the evidence. Investigate transmission, rendering, or encoding according to the indicators rather than changing unrelated settings.
- Change one relevant setting. Repeat the same test and compare the indicators so you can tell whether that adjustment helped.
- Monitor the event. Watch YouTube’s stream health during the broadcast and review its messages if the warning returns.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that should stay live from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a different setup from troubleshooting an active OBS-to-YouTube feed: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode and one price per slot.
