Restream’s documented workaround is to use a video source in Restream Studio and replace or hide that source during the live production. That changes the Studio source; it does not edit the Playlist. If the video must remain part of a Playlist, make the change before the Playlist goes live.
First, identify what is live
Restream Playlist and Restream Studio are different workflows. A Playlist airs a prepared sequence of prerecorded videos. Studio is a live production where you can add scenes and control video sources. The right way to replace a video depends on which one is carrying your YouTube broadcast.

Replace a video during a live Studio stream
This option applies when your YouTube broadcast is being produced in Restream Studio. If the broadcast is an already-airing Playlist, the Playlist editing restriction still applies; changing to a Studio source is a separate production workflow, not an in-place Playlist edit.
- Prepare a Media scene. In Studio, add a Media scene and select a video already in your library or upload the video you want to show. If you already have a scene with the intended video source, you can use that instead. Restream’s Studio video guide
- Switch to the scene when ready. Restream says scenes can be adjusted while the stream is live. Choose the scene containing the replacement video using Studio’s scene controls. Restream’s Scenes guide
- Control the video source. Use the available source controls to pause, seek, loop, adjust volume, maximize, replace, or hide the video. The exact controls affect the Studio source, not the Playlist sequence. Restream’s Studio video guide
- Confirm what viewers see and hear. Check that the intended video is visible and that its audio level is appropriate. Restream documents source and scene controls, but does not guarantee a transition without a brief visual or audio change.
Change a Playlist before it goes live
If the corrected video must be part of the Playlist, update the Playlist before its next broadcast. Restream’s help article, updated in 2026, documents a maximum of 40 videos and a maximum total duration of 24 hours per Playlist. These are Restream product limits and may change. - Open the Playlist setup in Restream.
- Select the correct video from storage or upload it.
- Add, remove, or rearrange videos until the sequence is correct.
- Preview the Playlist, then schedule it. Restream says drafts save automatically before scheduling is complete.
Restream says scheduled prerecorded videos and Playlists can start automatically at the scheduled time; manual-start exceptions for particular platforms are a separate issue from changing Playlist contents. Restream’s scheduling guide
Don’t mistake a YouTube event switch for a Playlist edit
Restream documents connecting an existing YouTube event to a stream and, in certain circumstances, switching events while live. It also says you cannot switch to an event that has already been streamed to. Changing the destination event does not change which videos are in a Restream Playlist. Check Playlist access and plan limits
Restream’s 2026 Playlist help article says the feature requires an Upload & Stream add-on tier. It lists these plans and specifications; plan packaging and prices can change, so confirm the current offer in Restream before subscribing. Restream Help Center

Common problems and what to do
- The Playlist is live and its video is wrong: Restream does not document editing the Playlist’s video contents mid-broadcast. Use Studio source controls only if the broadcast is a Studio production; otherwise, prepare the corrected Playlist for a later airing.
- You changed scenes, but the Playlist order stayed the same: That is expected. Studio scenes and sources are separate from Playlist contents.
- You switched YouTube events, but the video did not change: Event switching changes the broadcast destination, not the Playlist sequence. Use the appropriate Studio source workflow or edit the Playlist before it goes live.
- The replacement is not seamless: Restream lists live scene and source controls but does not guarantee a zero-interruption transition. Check the preview and audio as you make the change.
- You cannot find Playlist editing options: Check whether the Playlist is already live and whether your account has an Upload & Stream add-on tier. The documented limits and tiers are subject to change.
