Keep the narration easy to understand, then make each handoff gentle: lower the music under speech, let the final line finish, fade the outgoing bed down, and bring the next bed in smoothly. A brief quiet pause or soft bridge can help separate stories. YouTube does not prescribe a music level or fade duration; judge the mix by whether children can follow every word and recognize the start of the next story.
Choose music for the format you will publish
First decide whether your stories will be uploaded videos or part of a continuous live stream. Music permissions can differ by format, so a license suitable for an uploaded compilation should not be assumed to cover a livestream.
- Uploaded long-form stories or compilations: YouTube Audio Library tracks are a clear platform-grounded option. Check the license column for each track; some require attribution in the description. YouTube says Audio Library music and effects are known to it as copyright-safe, and that YouTube Partner Program members can monetize videos using them. YouTube Audio Library guidance.
- Continuous live stream: Get rights that explicitly cover live streaming. YouTube says Creator Music is for eligible long-form videos, not livestreams, and its FAQ says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content. Creator Music usage details and Creator Music FAQ.
- Original or third-party music: Confirm that the terms cover your channel, territory, monetization, repeat uploads, editing, and—if applicable—live use. “Free” or “royalty-free” labeling, and crediting the artist, do not by themselves establish that a track is cleared for your use. YouTube tips to find safe music.
Save the license or permission, track title, artist, download date, and any required attribution with the project. Creator Music terms vary by track; most of its licenses are for one use in one video, while Audio Library licenses are the exception for reuse across YouTube uploads.
Mix the story-to-story transition
- Set speech as the anchor. Play the story at ordinary listening volume. Lower the bed until quiet consonants and sentence endings remain effortless to understand. Use volume automation or side-chain ducking if your editor supports it. These are practical mixing methods, not YouTube-prescribed settings.
- Finish the outgoing story cleanly. Let the last spoken phrase end before the music fades away. Avoid an abrupt cut or a prominent musical accent beneath the final words.
- Make room for the next story. Use a short quiet beat when the listener needs a clear boundary, or a low-level musical bridge when continuity suits the program. There is no official fade or pause duration: choose by listening to the transition in context.
- Bring in the next bed smoothly. Fade it up without a sudden jump in loudness. Keep the opening line clear; do not place a louder hit directly under important narration.
- Check consistency across the sequence. Listen to each ending and the following opening back-to-back at the same playback level. Adjust abrupt changes in perceived loudness, tempo, instrumentation, or mood unless the story calls for them. YouTube’s children’s and family content guidance identifies unclear audio and confusing story flow as traits of hard-to-follow videos. YouTube best practices for children’s and family content.

Review music rights and claims
Before publishing, verify that the selected permission covers the format and intended use, and add any required attribution. Then check YouTube Studio for copyright claims. A claim can affect a video’s availability or monetization, but it does not by itself prove that you lack a license. Keep your rights records available when deciding how to respond.

Set the audience accurately
YouTube requires creators to designate videos as made for kids or not. Its factors include whether children are the intended audience and whether the material includes child-directed stories, songs, language, or activities; the creator is responsible for selecting the correct audience setting. For made-for-kids videos and streams, YouTube restricts features including personalized ads, comments, notifications, live chat, cards, and end screens. These audience rules do not set how loud the music should be, but they matter when planning the channel and format.
