How to Use Switchboard Live with YouTube’s Scheduled Livestream Feature

Schedule a YouTube livestream with Switchboard Live using a Switchboard Scheduled Event or a YouTube Studio event connected through Custom RTMP.

You can schedule a YouTube livestream through Switchboard Live in either of two ways: create a Switchboard Scheduled Event and add YouTube as a destination, or schedule the event in YouTube Studio and connect it to Switchboard with that event’s Stream URL and Stream Key. In the first workflow, sending encoder video is only the readiness step—you must also click Start Streaming to launch the event.

Choose where to create the event

Use a Switchboard Scheduled Event when you want to manage the event and its destinations in a Switchboard workflow. Use YouTube Studio plus a Custom RTMP destination when the event already exists in YouTube or you specifically need to connect Switchboard to that event’s own stream key.

YouTube event plus Custom RTMP YouTube Studio / Live Control Room Copy the event’s Stream URL and Stream Key into a Switchboard Custom RTMP destination. A one-off event already created in YouTube, or a setup that needs that event’s own key. Switchboard Custom RTMP guide

YouTube’s official guide to scheduling a livestream also describes creating the event in YouTube Studio and launching it from Live Control Room. Scheduled streams may be discoverable in YouTube search and subscriber feeds, and potentially on the home page; scheduling does not guarantee viewers or a particular audience outcome.

Create and launch an event in Switchboard

Set up the Scheduled Event

  1. Open the Switchboard workflow you want to use and create a Scheduled Event, or open the Events Page Manager and choose New Event. If you start from the manager, select the workflow for the event.
  2. Enter an internal event name, then provide the public stream title, description, and scheduled start date and time.
  3. Add a thumbnail or use the default.
  4. Add YouTube as a destination by selecting an account’s saved destination or connecting a new one. Switchboard’s current guide says it creates a scheduled event page for YouTube Partner Destinations as well.

Send the feed and start the event

  1. At the scheduled time, open the workflow’s Upcoming Events tab.
  2. Start sending video from your encoder to the workflow. Confirm that Switchboard is receiving video; this is a readiness check, not the event launch.
  3. Switchboard’s Scheduled Events guide says the Start Streaming button turns green when encoder video is present at the 30-minutes-before mark.
  4. Click Start Streaming to launch all destinations in the event group. Starting the encoder feed alone does not start the scheduled event.

Stop and review the event

When the broadcast is over, click Stop Streaming in the event header. Switchboard says the event is archived and removed from the workflow. Post-event analytics are available in the Events Page Manager for supported destinations.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Schedule in YouTube Studio and connect with Custom RTMP

This is a separate, manually configured route: create the event in YouTube first, then point a Switchboard Custom RTMP destination at it. YouTube Studio remains the place to manage the event’s public details.

  1. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create and schedule the livestream. Set its title, description, visibility, date, time, audience, and thumbnail in YouTube.
  2. Open the scheduled event and copy its Stream URL and Stream Key. Switchboard recommends using a new stream key for the scheduled event to help ensure the feed attaches to that event.
  3. In Switchboard, add a Custom RTMP destination. Paste the Stream URL into the Stream URL field and the Stream Key into the Stream Key field; do not swap them.
  4. When ready, send video from your encoder to Switchboard, select the Custom RTMP destination, and click Go Live.

Titles and descriptions entered in Switchboard are not pushed to Custom RTMP destinations, including YouTube scheduled events. The older Custom RTMP instructions say Switchboard does not support streaming directly to YouTube scheduled events; that statement describes this manual route, not the newer Switchboard-managed Scheduled Events workflow above. Keep the two paths distinct rather than treating the older limitation as a restriction on the current Scheduled Events feature. See Switchboard’s Custom RTMP and Scheduled Events instructions.

Check the event setup before going live

  • Confirm the route: know whether the event is managed as a Switchboard Scheduled Event or as a YouTube event connected through Custom RTMP.
  • Confirm the destination and feed: make sure the intended YouTube destination is in the event group or selected as the Custom RTMP destination, and that the correct encoder workflow is receiving video.
  • For Custom RTMP, verify both values: the event’s Stream URL and Stream Key must be copied into their correspondingly named fields.
  • Set public details in the right place: for the Custom RTMP route, manage the title and description in YouTube Studio because Switchboard does not pass those fields through.
  • Protect the shared event link: removing YouTube from a Switchboard Scheduled Event permanently deletes its public event page. Any link already shared for that destination stops working, and viewers who selected Notify Me lose that event subscription.

Troubleshoot common launch problems

The Switchboard event is not ready to start

Check that video is reaching the correct Switchboard workflow from your encoder. For a Scheduled Event, the guide says the button becomes available when the feed is present at the 30-minutes-before mark. If the feed is absent, troubleshoot the encoder-to-workflow connection before trying to launch.

YouTube schedules the stream instead of going live

Switchboard’s FAQ says this can happen when the active template is missing a YouTube stream title. Stop the stream, update the YouTube title in the designated field, and follow Switchboard’s connection troubleshooting steps.

The Custom RTMP event does not receive the intended feed

Recheck that you copied the Stream URL and Stream Key from the scheduled YouTube event and placed each in the matching Custom RTMP field. Also confirm you selected that destination and are sending video from the intended workflow.

You need to start later than the scheduled time

Switchboard’s September 3, 2025 launch article described a flexible start window of up to six hours after the scheduled time and said an event would expire if it was not started within six hours. The current Scheduled Events support guide documents the 30-minutes-before readiness behavior but does not repeat that late-start rule. Treat the six-hour timing as launch-era guidance and check the current dashboard or Switchboard support before relying on it. Switchboard’s 2025 Scheduled Events launch article.
