To send a prerecorded playlist to YouTube Live with Restream, open Pre-recorded livestream → Playlist, choose or upload your videos, arrange their order, customize the playlist if needed, then preview or schedule it. Restream says a scheduled playlist can broadcast automatically, even while your laptop is unplugged. First make sure your YouTube channel is eligible to livestream.

Before you build the playlist

  • Check YouTube eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time livestream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s livestreaming requirements.
  • Gather the finished video files. Restream’s playlist workflow uses videos from your library or files you upload. Confirm current file-size, duration, storage, and plan limits in your Restream account before preparing a large playlist; those limits can depend on your subscription.
  • Decide the viewing order. Treat the playlist as one combined broadcast made from an ordered series of videos. Review transitions and the opening and ending of each file so the sequence makes sense to viewers arriving partway through.

Restream’s older prerecorded-event guide also describes setting an event title, description, date and time, thumbnail or cover, and destination platforms. Because that guide dates to 2022, use the current interface and your account’s displayed limits rather than relying on old plan figures. Restream’s prerecorded-video guide.

Create and schedule a Restream playlist

  1. From the Restream home screen, select Pre-recorded livestream, then Playlist. If you have made a playlist before, Restream’s current help article says you can select it from the home screen.
  2. Choose videos already in your Restream library, or upload the files you want to include.
  3. Arrange the videos in the order you want them to play. Check the full sequence before moving on.
  4. Select Add Video to add more files or create a countdown.
  5. Apply designs, captions, or QR codes if they suit the broadcast. These are optional customizations.
  6. Preview the playlist, then schedule when it should go live. Follow the event status and controls Restream displays, and confirm that the associated YouTube event or watch page is set up as intended.

Restream’s Help Center describes this workflow in an article published July 25, 2026: Restream playlist instructions. Restream says scheduled playlists can broadcast automatically, including when the creator’s laptop is unplugged.

Restream playlist versus a YouTube encoder stream

These are separate ways to deliver video to YouTube Live. A Restream playlist is an ordered set of uploaded or library videos that you preview or schedule. An encoder workflow sends a feed to YouTube from an encoder and uses YouTube’s Live Control Room. Do not mix their button sequences.

Workflow What you do Best fit
Restream playlist Choose or upload videos in Restream, order and optionally customize them, then preview or schedule the combined broadcast. A prepared sequence of prerecorded videos.
YouTube encoder stream Configure an encoder to send a feed to YouTube, start the encoder, check the preview in Live Control Room, then use YouTube’s Go live control. A stream that needs encoder-based production control or a continuous feed.

YouTube’s encoder instructions describe the encoder-specific sequence; it is not a universal extra step for a hosted Restream playlist. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

Stream keys and the YouTube handoff

A YouTube stream key tells an encoder where to send its feed and lets YouTube accept it. That matters for the encoder workflow, but it does not mean you should paste a stream key into Restream’s playlist flow. Follow Restream’s current playlist instructions and only provide a key if its current interface explicitly asks for one. Treat stream keys as account credentials: do not share them publicly or include them in a video or description. YouTube explains stream keys in its encoder guidance and stream settings help.

Common problems and what to check

  • Livestreaming is unavailable on the channel: verify the channel and check for livestream restrictions within the prior 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
  • A video will not upload or add to the playlist: check the current account’s displayed file constraints and subscription limits. Do not rely on an old free-plan allowance from a 2022 guide.
  • The playlist is not broadcasting when expected: inspect the schedule and event state in Restream, then verify the associated YouTube event or watch page. Use controls shown for the hosted playlist rather than assuming YouTube’s encoder-specific manual Go live step applies.
  • The YouTube preview does not show an encoder feed: that check belongs to the encoder workflow. Confirm you are following the correct workflow; a prepared Restream playlist is scheduled through Restream.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel rather than a scheduled Restream playlist, StreamNeo is another option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. You can stream at the quality you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo or start the free day.
