You can check a Switchboard Live stream remotely by opening Switchboard’s Workflow page to see whether it is receiving your encoder’s video, then checking YouTube’s Live Control Room for YouTube-side stream health and error messages. These are dashboard checks, not a documented promise of phone alerts or unattended monitoring.
What “offline” means in this guide
Being away from the streaming computer is different from the broadcast being offline. Switchboard uses OFFLINE for workflow or destination status when a stream is not actively live. Its dashboard can show whether the encoder is connected and whether video is arriving, but the documentation reviewed does not establish that an away operator automatically receives a call, text, push notification, or other alert.
Check the stream from a phone or another computer

Open Switchboard’s Workflow page
Sign in to Switchboard and open the relevant workflow. Its confidence monitor previews the feed Switchboard receives from your encoder. If there is no activity and the encoder is not connected, Switchboard is not receiving video; the encoder pane may show “Not receiving video,” and destinations can show OFFLINE. Read the incoming signal and workflow status
When the encoder is connected and sending video, the workflow can display bitrate and FPS, connection status, errors, and live/offline and destination states. These details help establish whether video is reaching Switchboard and whether the workflow is live. They do not prove that every viewer can successfully play the YouTube stream.

Check the YouTube destination
Open the destination details to review its broadcast status and viewing URL. If practical, open that YouTube URL on a second device to check the viewer-facing stream as well. Switchboard documents these destination details here.

Open YouTube Live Control Room
Use Live Control Room for YouTube-side stream health and status messages. YouTube says stream status can include specific error messages and instructions. This check complements Switchboard: the two services observe different points in the path. See YouTube’s live metrics guidance.

Review analytics after the broadcast
YouTube says live metrics become available in YouTube Analytics within minutes after a live stream ends. That post-stream reporting is distinct from real-time stream health in Live Control Room; it is not an alert that tells an absent operator a stream has failed.
Use the two dashboards to narrow down a problem

What OFFLINE and health indicators do—and do not—tell you
Switchboard’s Workflow page documents the encoder connection, received video, bitrate and FPS when connected, error messages, live/offline header, and destination status. Its updates changelog also describes a stream-health feature announced February 9, 2026, with healthy, warning, and bad states, encoder connection status, quality tier, bitrate stability, and troubleshooting guidance. Switchboard’s scheduled-event instructions describe manual operator actions on the event date, including keeping Switchboard and YouTube Control Room open, starting the encoder, checking the confidence monitor, and using Go Live controls. The guide also describes YouTube Auto-Start as an option that can start when video arrives. That does not establish unattended alerting, failure recovery, or an end-to-end guarantee.
