Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo keep the current game clear while rerunning VODs, update two separate things: the YouTube Live metadata title and, if you want the name visible inside the video, an on-screen text overlay. Change both when the game changes; one does not automatically update the other.
Choose where viewers should see the game title
| Option | Where viewers see it | What to edit | Appears in the replay? |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube metadata title | On the live event page and in YouTube’s interface | The stream’s settings or Edit controls in YouTube Studio | It identifies the live event; the video image itself is unchanged |
| OBS text overlay | Inside the broadcast image | A Text Source in the OBS scene | Yes. The text is rendered into the video image and therefore appears in the replay |
Use the metadata title to identify the live event. Add an overlay when the game name also needs to be visible to viewers watching the picture or the archived replay. You can use either or both.
Prepare the VOD playback and OBS scene
- Choose a playback source. In OBS, a Media Source can play a local video file and has a Loop option. If you need to play a playlist, OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists but requires VLC to be installed.
- Build the scene. Add the VOD playback source to the scene used for the broadcast. If you want the game name inside the picture, add a Text Source above the video source in the scene’s source order.
- Choose the text source for your system. OBS documents Text (GDI+) for Windows and Text (Freetype 2) for macOS and Linux. Type the game name into the source, or enable “Read from file” to use text supplied by an external file.
- Place and check the label. Position and size it so viewers can read it without covering important content. Preview the scene before starting the broadcast.
OBS’s playback and text-source features do not establish that a particular VOD is licensed for rebroadcast. Confirm you have the rights needed to stream the recording.
Set the current game in YouTube Live metadata
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and select the active stream or the scheduled stream you are preparing.
- Open the stream’s settings or Edit controls. YouTube’s documented metadata-editing guidance covers encoder and mobile streams; it excludes webcam streams.
- Enter a concise title that names the current game. Select the Gaming stream type where appropriate.
- Save the changes and check the live event page to confirm the title appears as intended.
YouTube says tags have minimal impact on discovery except for content commonly misspelled, so prioritize an accurate title rather than relying on tags. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Update both labels when the VOD changes games
When playback moves to a different game, edit the YouTube stream metadata title through the Live Control Room and change the OBS text as well if you use an overlay. The title is platform metadata; the OBS text is part of the encoded image. The documented workflow does not establish automatic synchronization between them.
If the OBS Text Source reads from a file, update that file when the game changes. If you typed the label directly into OBS, edit the source text instead.

Edit the archived replay after the broadcast
YouTube archives live streams automatically by default, and a finished replay appears as a video. If the archive needs a different title or category, open it in YouTube Studio under Content, then edit its video details. You can change the replay separately from the live metadata. YouTube’s documented video-title limit is 100 characters. See YouTube’s video settings guidance and its live stream archive guidance.
Know which controls apply to your streaming method
The Live Control Room metadata steps above apply to encoder and mobile streams, not webcam streams. YouTube has separate webcam guidance, which says webcam settings can be changed while live or when not live; it also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you stream from a webcam, use the webcam-specific controls rather than assuming the encoder/mobile menu path will match. Menu labels can vary by streaming method and interface changes. See YouTube’s webcam live streaming guidance.

Troubleshoot title and overlay problems
- The live page still shows the old game title: Check that you edited the selected active or scheduled stream in YouTube Studio and saved the metadata change.
- The game name is not visible inside the video: Confirm the Text Source is enabled and layered above the VOD source in the OBS scene. Check its text and position in the preview.
- The overlay is current but the YouTube title is not: These are separate outputs. Update the stream metadata as well as the OBS text.
- The title controls do not match the instructions: Confirm whether you are using an encoder, mobile, or webcam workflow. The cited metadata guidance excludes webcam streams.
- The replay title differs from the live event title: Edit the archived video’s details in YouTube Studio after the broadcast; it is managed as a video.
- A playlist will not load through OBS’s VLC Video source: Check that VLC is installed. For a single local file, OBS Media Source offers playback and a Loop option.
