PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFirst find out whether the silence is local to one viewer or present in the stream for everyone. If only one person hears it, check YouTube’s player, browser, device sound and output selection. If multiple viewers hear the gap—or it is also silent in the creator’s recording—inspect the VOD, encoder audio routing and YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube’s published guidance covers general playback and live-ingest problems; it does not identify a specific defect or setting for silence between successive VODs.
Start by locating where the silence occurs
Replay the same point in the YouTube VOD and ask another viewer to check it on a different device. If you are the creator, compare the published VOD with the encoder’s local recording or archive. This separates a playback problem affecting one viewer from a fault that is already in the stream or recording. It is a diagnostic approach based on YouTube’s separate viewer and creator guidance, not a platform rule.
- Only one viewer or device is silent: start with the player, browser, system sound and selected output device.
- Several viewers hear the gap, or the VOD itself is silent: investigate the source material, encoder routing and ingest path.
- The creator’s local recording is also silent: the break is present before or during local encoding; check sources and encoder output.
- The local recording sounds normal but the VOD does not: check YouTube Live Control Room for errors and investigate the path from encoder to YouTube.
A gap exactly at a VOD handoff does not by itself identify the cause. It could originate in the source files, audio routing, encoding, ingest or playback. The reviewed YouTube pages do not isolate this particular transition scenario.
If only your playback is silent
Try these checks before changing the creator’s encoder settings. YouTube’s viewer guidance recommends checking sound controls and device settings, then restarting the browser or device: How to fix no sound on YouTube.

- In the YouTube player, make sure the video is not muted and raise its volume.
- Check that the browser tab, browser and device are not muted. Confirm the system volume is up.
- Check the selected sound output—such as speakers or headphones—and make sure it is connected and working.
- Replay the same timestamp in another browser or on another supported device.
- Restart the browser or device and check that timestamp again.
If the silence follows one browser or device while other viewers and the creator’s recording have sound, keep troubleshooting that playback setup. If it is reproducible for other viewers too, move to the creator-side checks.
If the gap affects multiple viewers or appears in the VOD
Compare the published VOD with the local archive
Replay the affected timestamp in the published VOD, then compare it with the creator’s local recording or archive, if available. Note whether the silence begins before the handoff, occurs only during the transition, or continues into the next VOD. The comparison helps locate the fault, but no single result proves its cause.

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
Check encoder sources and meters at the transition
Look at the encoder’s audio meters and confirm that the game, desktop, microphone or other intended sources are routed to the stream. Check the actual transition between the two VODs: a source may be present during one file but missing or muted during the next. Review encoder errors and CPU load as well. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking sound in the encoder, audio/video sources routed to it, encoder errors, CPU load and the local archive.
Review Live Control Room and the audio stream
Check YouTube Live Control Room for ingest or audio errors. YouTube documents errors for a stream with no audio stream and for multiple audio streams. Its RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. If you see an error, use its wording to guide the correction rather than assuming every handoff gap has the same cause. See Live streaming error messages.

- Compact, feature-rich livestreaming USB audio mixer provides high-quality sound for desktop audio production
- Plug-and-play connectivity to computer or mobile device (no special drivers required)
- Loopback function makes it easy to mix mic and instrument inputs with background music, game sounds, or other audio input from a computer – and send the stereo mix back to the computer for streaming
- High-performance A/D converter with resolution up to 24-bit/192 kHz provides crystal-clear output for voice and instruments
- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ÂĽ"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
YouTube describes the no-audio-stream error with the wording, “Your encoder is sending no audio.” That points to checking whether an audio stream is enabled and actually being sent; it does not establish why a particular VOD transition is silent.
If encoder output is healthy, check the outbound connection
If the encoder preview and local archive both have sound but the YouTube VOD does not, examine Live Control Room status and the connection from the encoder to YouTube. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance advises checking the outbound internet connection when local output appears healthy. Preserve the affected timestamp and any encoder or Live Control Room error details while diagnosing; they can help distinguish a routing problem from an ingest or playback issue.

Test the next VOD handoff before the rerun
Run a private or unlisted test that uses the same game audio, desktop and microphone routing, and the same kind of transition between VODs. Check both the Live Control Room preview and the local archive, and monitor audio and video during the test. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring a live stream continuously; applying that advice to the handoff itself is a practical diagnostic step, not a YouTube-specific rule for reruns. See Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream and Streaming tips.
Audio settings: what to change—and what not to assume
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Treat that as a general configuration recommendation, not evidence that audio bitrate causes silence between VODs. If the stream has no audio stream, multiple audio streams or a source that stops at the boundary, changing bitrate alone will not identify or necessarily fix the underlying issue.

Do not assume that buying a headset, microphone, cable or capture accessory will solve a silent interval. The checks supported by YouTube’s guidance concern playback controls, source routing, encoder output, ingest and connection—not a particular piece of physical gear.
