The best Switchboard Live alternative depends on what you mean by “looping a YouTube playlist.” To repeat a playlist for someone watching YouTube, use YouTube’s player controls. To broadcast local video files as a looping YouTube Live stream from a computer you can keep running, use OBS Studio with its VLC Video source. To play uploaded videos to YouTube Live while your computer is off, StreamNeo offers a cloud-hosted option; its features and offer details are vendor-published.
Choose the workflow that matches your goal
These options solve different problems: a viewer can loop a playlist in YouTube’s player; an encoder can broadcast local video files to YouTube Live; or a hosted service can play uploaded files without a local computer running. Switchboard’s documentation describes encoder connections and destination distribution, not a confirmed playlist-loop feature or feature-by-feature comparison. Switchboard’s encoder documentation and destination documentation therefore do not establish that any alternative is a direct replacement for every Switchboard workflow.
| Option | What it does | Playlist or loop support | Key constraint |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube player | Repeats a playlist for a person watching YouTube. | YouTube documents a playlist Loop control. | Viewer playback, not a live broadcast. |
| OBS Studio with VLC Video | Uses local media as an encoder source for a broadcast. | OBS documents playlist playback and a Loop Playlist option, on by default. | VLC must be installed, and the computer remains part of the broadcast chain. |
| StreamNeo | Vendor-described cloud playback of uploaded videos or playlists to YouTube Live. | StreamNeo describes cloud looping. | YouTube only; confirm current service terms. |
| Restream | Schedules prerecorded video streams and finite playlists. | A single video can be repeated up to 10 times; playlist looping is unsupported. | Playlist access is tied to an Upload & Stream add-on tier; documented limit is 24 hours and 40 videos. |
| StreamYard | Hosted production studio with looping video clips. | Its help page says clips can loop until manually stopped. | The documentation covers a studio clip, not unattended continuous looping of a playlist. |

Best options by use case
1. StreamNeo: cloud-hosted YouTube looping
For an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded prerecorded video, StreamNeo is the most direct fit among these alternatives: it runs the playback in the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. StreamNeo says you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams to YouTube only, not other platforms.

2. OBS Studio with VLC: local playlist broadcasting
If you have local video files and can leave a computer and network connection running, OBS Studio’s VLC Video source is the clearest documented do-it-yourself alternative. OBS documents support for playlists through this source; VLC must be installed, and the source includes a Loop Playlist control that is on by default. This is a local encoder workflow, not cloud playback.
3. YouTube’s player: repeat a playlist for viewers
If you only want an existing YouTube playlist to repeat for you or another viewer, use YouTube’s built-in Loop control. This repeats playback in the YouTube player; it does not create a YouTube Live broadcast.

4. Restream: schedule a finite prerecorded playlist
Restream distinguishes between repeating one prerecorded video and scheduling a playlist. Its help documentation says an individual video can be looped up to 10 times, with a maximum 40-hour stream, while playlist looping is not supported. Its documented playlist limit is 24 hours and 40 videos, and playlist access requires an Upload & Stream add-on tier. These are limits stated by Restream Help Center articles dated March 11, 2026, and July 25, 2026, respectively; check current eligibility and terms before relying on them.
5. StreamYard: loop a clip during a hosted production
StreamYard documents looping a video clip until it is manually stopped. That is useful for a clip in a hosted production, but the cited help page does not establish unattended, continuous playlist looping.

How to loop local video files live with OBS and VLC
OBS’s documented VLC Video source is the relevant alternative when the playlist consists of files on a computer. The computer and connection remain in the chain throughout the broadcast; OBS’s media-source documentation does not promise cloud playback.
- Install VLC and OBS Studio. VLC is required for OBS’s VLC Video source. Download these applications from their official project sites and confirm they work on your operating system.
- Prepare the playlist files. Keep the files accessible on the computer that will run OBS. Check that each file plays correctly in VLC before starting a long broadcast.
- Add the playlist source in OBS. In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source, then add the local video files to its playlist. OBS documents the source and playlist controls in its Media Sources guide.
- Enable looping. In the VLC Video source properties, leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS says this setting defaults to on; verify it before going live.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key or connect your YouTube account if that option is offered. Treat the key like a password; do not share it or publish it.
- Check the broadcast before starting. Preview the VLC source, confirm the playlist plays and loops, and verify YouTube Studio receives the encoder feed. Start streaming in OBS only when the preview and YouTube status look right.
- Keep the setup running. Leave OBS open, the computer powered, and the network connected for the duration. A sleep, shutdown, lost connection, or OBS failure interrupts this local workflow.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Having permission to upload a video does not automatically establish that you can rebroadcast it as a continuous live stream. Before looping a playlist publicly, check rights for every video, music track, image, and other included material, including any license terms that limit live or commercial use. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether an encoder or hosted service can play the files. Reused-content monetization is also distinct from copyright permission: a channel should not assume that permission alone makes repetitive or minimally transformed programming eligible for monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies for your channel and content before committing to a 24/7 format.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Troubleshooting common failures
- The playlist stops after one pass: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video source properties. OBS documents that it is on by default, but the source setting may have been changed.
- The VLC Video source is unavailable or fails to play: Confirm VLC is installed, then reopen or recreate the source and check that the playlist files are reachable. OBS requires VLC for this source.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Recheck the selected YouTube service and stream key under Settings > Stream in OBS. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.
- The stream ends when you leave the computer: OBS is running locally, so check power and sleep settings, network stability, and whether OBS remains open. A local workflow requires the computer to stay in the broadcast chain.
- A Restream playlist will not repeat: Restream’s documented playlist feature does not support looping. Its separate individual-video loop option is limited to up to 10 repeats, according to its help article.
- A StreamYard clip keeps playing: The documented clip loop continues until manually stopped. The cited documentation does not establish an unattended playlist-looping mode.
- Video plays but the channel raises a rights or monetization concern: Review rights for all included media and check YouTube’s current policies; successful playback is not proof of rights or monetization eligibility.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. StreamNeo says it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. It is for YouTube playback of uploaded videos, not camera-based streaming. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
