For a mostly static podcast stream, start with 6 Mbps at 720p30 if you use AV1 or H.265 (HEVC), or 8 Mbps at 720p30 if you use H.264. At 1080p30, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264. These are YouTube’s live-stream ingest recommendations—not guaranteed Airtel upload speeds. Measure sustained upload capacity where you will stream, leave about 20% headroom, and lower resolution if the connection is unstable.
Choose a bitrate that matches your resolution and codec
Use YouTube’s live encoder settings, not the separate recommendations for uploading a finished video. The table below gives YouTube’s recommended H.264 rates and, for comparison, its AV1/H.265 recommendations for common podcast settings. Values are video bitrate; audio is additional.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 recommended | AV1/H.265 recommended | H.264 minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
For many talking-head or mostly static podcasts, 720p30 is a sensible starting target: 60 fps usually adds little for a largely still set, while higher resolutions require more sustained upload capacity. That is a practical recommendation, not a separate YouTube podcast preset. Use the bitrate for the codec you actually select; do not take a rate from one codec column and apply it to another.
Measure Airtel upload speed at the streaming location
Your Airtel plan’s advertised speed does not establish the upload rate available to your encoder during the show. YouTube notes that download speed is often higher than upload speed, so check outbound capacity specifically. Airtel also notes speed-test results vary with time and location.

#1 Best Overall
- 40 Gbps 2000 Mhz High Speed: The Cat 8 ethernet cable support max. 40 Gbps data transfer and 2000 MHz Brandwith, ideal for gaming and streaming, greatly improving upload and download speed, sound, image and resolution quality
- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable
- Marvelous Durability: Internet cable wrapped with quality cotton braided cord, which makes the LAN cable stronger and more durable. The test proves that this internet cable can be bent at least 10000 times without broken, very suitable for long-term use
- PoE Supported: All lengths of ethernet cord can support the PoE power supply function except 65ft. You don't need additional power supply when installing a PoE camera, which is very convenient and safe
- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
- Connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet if possible. A Cat 6 cable can provide a wired connection for testing, but it cannot improve the underlying broadband service or guarantee a particular rate.
- Pause cloud backups, downloads, software updates, and other transfers; reduce traffic from other devices while testing.
- Choose a nearby speed-test server and run several tests at different times, including near the time you plan to broadcast.
- Use the sustained upload results—not the download result or the advertised plan ceiling—as your planning figure.
Airtel’s plan page lists plan-specific advertised speeds and notes that some offers are available only in select geographies. Those ceilings are not a prediction of the upload you will get at your location or at showtime. See Airtel broadband plans.
Leave bandwidth headroom
YouTube recommends about 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate. The video bitrate is only part of that total: include audio and, if you configure one, a backup stream. Do not set the encoder to consume nearly all the measured upload capacity. If the available upload varies or cannot comfortably accommodate your chosen setting plus headroom, use a lower resolution or bitrate and rehearse again.

- UTP(Unshielded Twisted Pair) patch cable with RJ45 gold-plated Connectors and are made of 100% bare copper wire, ensure minimal noise and interference
- The unique flat cable shape allows for a cleaner and safer installation. You can easily and seamlessly make the cable run along walls, follow edges & corners or even make it completely invisible by sliding it under a carpet.
Set the encoder and YouTube stream
- Create or open your YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, then configure the stream in Live Control Room. Choose the stream type and obtain its stream key there. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Enter the stream destination and key in your encoder. Use RTMPS where your encoder offers it. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as encoder options. For broad compatibility, choose H.264 over RTMPS if your setup supports it.
- Set the video output. For a static podcast, try 1280Ă—720 at 30 fps first. Set the video bitrate to the matching codec recommendation in the table; for H.264 at 720p30, that is 8 Mbps. If your tested connection supports it with headroom, 1920Ă—1080 at 30 fps is another option, using 14 Mbps for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265.
- Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Set audio and start a private rehearsal. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for stereo audio and recommends 128 kbps. Start an unlisted or private test, with the same camera movement, graphics, guests, and audio configuration as the actual show.
- Check Live Control Room stream health. Confirm that YouTube is receiving the expected resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate. Resolve any encoder warnings before the public broadcast.
For details and current encoder parameters, consult YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings and its live streaming troubleshooting guidance.
Adjust quality when the connection is inconsistent
If stream health reports dropped frames, instability, or insufficient bandwidth, first stop competing network traffic and check whether the encoder is sending the bitrate and format you intended. If the upload still cannot sustain the target, reduce resolution and select the corresponding bitrate. A stable 720p stream is preferable to a 1080p stream that repeatedly breaks up.

- Weatherproof & UV Resistant: Outdoor-rated Cat8 Ethernet cable with UV-resistant PVC jacket; withstands direct sunlight, extreme cold, humidity, and hot weather; anti-aging and durable; Includes 18-month support.
- Speed test looks high, but the stream struggles: the test may reflect download rather than upload, a different time or route, or traffic from other devices. Retest by Ethernet under quieter network conditions.
- Encoder bitrate is higher than the connection can sustain: reduce the bitrate or step down from 1080p to 720p, then rehearse. Preserve the headroom YouTube recommends.
- YouTube reports a keyframe or format mismatch: check that the output uses CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and verify resolution, frame rate, codec, and audio settings against YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Wireless results fluctuate: test over Ethernet if possible, move closer to the router if wired access is unavailable, and limit other devices and transfers. Repeat the test; one result is not a guarantee of showtime performance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live with uploaded podcast recordings, rather than a camera-based live show, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
