To repeat several local videos during a church YouTube livestream, install VLC, add an OBS VLC Video source, load the files in order, and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The OBS and YouTube instructions describe this general workflow; they do not specify a separate India-only setup.
Before you begin
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS. OBS says VLC Video uses VLC libraries, so the source will not be available without VLC. Match architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Make sure the channel is eligible to livestream. YouTube’s general requirements include channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and being at least 16 years old. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Gather the videos in the sequence you want them to play, and confirm the church has the necessary rights to livestream each video and music track. YouTube places responsibility for necessary rights, including music licensing rights, on the provider; the permissions required depend on the specific material and the church’s licenses.
Set up a repeating playlist in OBS
- Open the OBS scene that should show the playlist. In Sources, select + → VLC Video. If VLC Video is missing, install VLC and confirm its architecture matches OBS.
- In the source properties, add the media files and arrange them in the intended playback order.
- Enable Loop Playlist. This makes the source start over after it runs out of media files.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist disabled for a fixed sequence. Turn it on only if randomized playback is wanted.
- If the scene may change during the service, review the source’s visibility behavior. Choose whether playback should continue, pause, or stop when the source is hidden; the selected behavior affects playback on a scene change.
For just one video, use OBS’s Media Source and enable its Loop option. VLC Video is the playlist source for multiple files.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming or encoder settings. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not show it on screen, share it publicly, or include it in screenshots.
- Start the encoder feed from OBS. For a scheduled event, wait for the encoder preview to appear in Live Control Room, check it, and select Go live there when ready.
Test before the service
- Run a private or unlisted test and check that both video and audio play as expected.
- Confirm the playlist reaches its last item and starts over, and check whether the order remains fixed.
- Check the YouTube preview before the event. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder ahead of time and reviewing the preview and stream quality.
- Leave upload-bandwidth headroom. The available upload bandwidth needs to accommodate the stream’s total bitrate; monitor the connection during the event.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| VLC Video does not appear in Sources | Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS. OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. |
| The playlist stops at the end | Open the VLC Video source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled. |
| Files play in an unexpected order | Check the file order in the source properties and whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. |
| Changing scenes interrupts playback | Review the VLC source’s visibility behavior and select whether hidden playback should continue, pause, or stop. |
| YouTube shows no encoder preview | Confirm the selected stream, stream URL, and stream key in OBS, and make sure OBS is sending the encoder feed. Then check Live Control Room again. |
| The stream buffers or drops | Check the connection and available upload bandwidth against the total stream bitrate, leave headroom, and monitor the stream. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the playlist should keep a YouTube channel live without leaving a computer running at church or at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed. Start the free first day.
