You can stream a prerecorded church service from a Windows laptop by playing the local video in OBS Studio, sending OBS’s encoder feed to YouTube Live Control Room, checking the preview, and starting the event. Before service day, verify that the channel can go live, clear the rights to music and other third-party material, and rehearse the entire playback and internet connection.
Before you set up OBS, check channel access and content rights
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its stated minimum age for livestreaming is 16. Enable live streaming and complete any required setup before the service day; do not assume a newly enabled channel will be ready immediately. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance explains eligibility and setup.
Clear music, clips, photographs, and other third-party material
Review everything in the recording, including worship music, backing tracks, video clips, and photographs. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Copyright or Community Guidelines enforcement may also end it. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance describes these outcomes.
A license or permission may not prevent a live interruption if the rights owner has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the actual rights owner whether the channel and intended livestream are covered and whether allowlisting is needed. Restricting a stream to territories where the channel has rights does not remove YouTube’s stated allowlist requirement. This platform guidance does not establish which Indian license applies to a particular church, song, or recording; confirm the applicable permissions for your material rather than relying on a credit, receipt, or general church permission.

Prepare the prerecorded service in OBS Studio
Create a scene and add the video file
- Install and open OBS Studio on the Windows laptop. Create a scene for the service, or select the scene you intend to broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source. Give it a useful name and select the local prerecorded service file. OBS documents common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, TS, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the current source options.
- Check the scene canvas: confirm the picture is framed as intended, and play the source to verify that the service audio is audible through OBS. If the recording needs a title card or other elements, add and arrange those in the scene, then rehearse them with the video.
- Set playback behavior intentionally. Media Source can restart playback when the source becomes active and can loop the file. Enable looping only if you want the recording to repeat; do not assume it will restart or end in the way you expect. Test the whole file, including its ending, through the actual scene.
These are documented OBS capabilities, not a guarantee that a particular recording, Windows laptop, or setup will work without adjustment. Rehearse the complete service through the same scene and encoder you will use live.
Create the YouTube event and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create an immediate stream or schedule an event under Manage. Scheduling gives you an event page to share so viewers can set reminders; an immediate stream suits an ad hoc broadcast. Follow the current YouTube encoder-streaming instructions if the interface labels change.
- In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key shown for that event. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube or the appropriate service option, and enter the event’s URL and key. Use the exact values shown in Live Control Room; do not guess a server address.
- Use RTMPS if OBS supports it for the selected connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS/SSL, but warns that the default URL displayed may be ordinary RTMP. Copy the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room when available. Details are in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Treat the stream key like a password: keep it private, do not share screenshots that expose it, and reset it if it is compromised.
Set the encoder, then rehearse the whole path
Use YouTube’s current settings table rather than a guessed bitrate
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS video ingestion, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its recommended bitrate varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate, so consult the current YouTube encoder settings table for the format you actually select instead of copying a generic number. The table is platform guidance, not an India-specific tested preset.

Check upload capacity and stream health
Test the laptop’s actual upload connection at the location and time you plan to stream. YouTube recommends keeping the combined stream bitrate below available upload bandwidth, with 20% headroom recommended in its streaming tips. Actual performance in India depends on local conditions and the service plan; no particular speed or connection has been verified for your location. Use YouTube’s live-streaming tips and monitor stream health rather than assuming a speed-test result guarantees a stable broadcast.
Ethernet is optional, not a YouTube requirement. A wired connection can be worth testing if the laptop and router support it, but confirm the ports and any adapter compatibility first. Reliable Wi-Fi may also work; test the connection you will use.

Run a real rehearsal
- Start OBS output well before the service. In Live Control Room, wait for the encoder feed and preview to appear.
- Inspect picture framing and sound in the preview, then check the event’s watch page as a viewer would. An unlisted test event can help you test access without a public announcement.
- Let the recording play long enough to verify playback, audio, scene changes, and the ending. Confirm the intended behavior when the Media Source finishes or restarts.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators and correct any warnings before the actual service. YouTube recommends testing, previewing, checking the watch page, and monitoring audio and video throughout the stream.
Go live, then end the event cleanly
- For a scheduled event, start OBS and wait until Live Control Room receives the feed and displays the preview.
- Check the preview one last time, then select Go live in Live Control Room. Starting the encoder feed alone is not the same as launching a scheduled event to viewers.
- Keep an operator available to watch the picture, sound, and stream health while the prerecorded file plays.
- When the service is finished, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder output in OBS. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that automatic archive behavior for longer streams.
Troubleshooting common problems
- No preview appears: Check that OBS is sending output, the correct event’s server URL and stream key are entered, and the event is open in Live Control Room. Recopy the event values if needed, keeping the key private.
- Picture appears but sound does not: Play the Media Source in OBS, inspect the source and audio meters, and verify the scene’s audio is reaching the encoder. Correct it in a rehearsal before launching the event.
- The video freezes or stream health degrades: Check the actual upload connection and encoder bitrate. Reduce the selected bitrate or video settings to a level the tested connection can sustain, using YouTube’s current table and its recommended headroom.
- The recording ends or repeats unexpectedly: Recheck Media Source restart and loop settings, then test the complete playback. Match those settings to whether the event should play once or repeat.
- YouTube shows a copyright placeholder or ends the stream: A third-party-content match may be responsible. Resolve permissions with the rights owner and ask about Content ID allowlisting; changing territory visibility alone does not satisfy that requirement.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded service intended to keep a YouTube channel live continuously, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos in the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
