Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To keep a church stream from displaying an ended broadcast during a break, don’t end the YouTube broadcast between services. Leave the encoder connected and live, and switch its output to a prepared holding slide or looped announcement video. Switch back to the camera or program scene when the next service begins. This is an encoder-side production workflow, not a special YouTube holding-screen feature; rehearse it with the encoder you use.
Choose between one continuous stream and separate service pages
| What you want | Workflow | What viewers see |
|---|---|---|
| One watch page across the break | Keep the encoder and YouTube broadcast active; show a holding scene between services. | The same live session remains open, with the holding output during the interval. |
| A distinct watch page for each service | Schedule the next encoder stream in advance. If appropriate and eligible, use YouTube Live Redirect to send viewers from the ended stream to the next live stream or a Premiere. | Each service has its own page. YouTube says to set up a Premiere before the live stream if using one as the redirect destination. |
Reusing a stream key does not itself make separate services one continuous event. YouTube permits use of a stream key and reuse of custom keys, but that is separate from the choice of broadcast and watch page.
Set up an intermission scene in your encoder
- Prepare the holding output. In your encoder, create a scene or source using a church-approved still image or a looped announcement video. Mute its audio, or use background audio that the church is properly licensed to play. The holding media, its design, and its duration are production choices; YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe them.
- Check the transition before the service. Preview the stream and test switching from the camera or program scene to the holding scene, then back again. YouTube recommends checking the preview and testing or monitoring the stream. Rehearse with your chosen encoder, since scene controls differ.
- Keep the broadcast live during the interval. Leave the encoder connected and the YouTube broadcast active. Use the encoder’s scene or source controls to put the holding output on air. Do not click End Stream to create the break: ending the broadcast stops the live feed.
- Return to the service. When the next service is ready, switch the encoder output back to the live camera or program scene.
- End the final broadcast. After the last service, end the stream and then stop the encoder. YouTube Help’s instruction is: “After your event has stopped on YouTube, stop the encoder.”
Manage the replay separately after the service
An ended broadcast and an archived replay are different things. YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours. If you do not want the completed service displayed as a public replay, use YouTube Studio to change the archive’s visibility or delete it. These archive controls affect the recording after the event; they do not provide a holding image during a live break.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the break is part of a longer run of prerecorded church videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.
