For a calm fireplace loop, start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 video, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval and 5 Mbps video bitrate. That is a practical starting point—not a special YouTube preset. Keep the stream stable, leave upload headroom, test the loop’s seam and audio, and monitor YouTube’s stream health before and during the broadcast.

These codec, bitrate, keyframe, audio and video-format recommendations come from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. The 1080p30 combination is a practical choice for this kind of scene, rather than a YouTube-mandated fireplace preset.
Choose 30 or 60 fps
Use 1080p30 as the first choice for a mostly static hearth. If the source has fast, detailed flame movement and 60 fps looks materially better, you can try 1080p60—but it requires a larger sustained upload rate.

Make sure the connection can sustain the stream
Check upload speed, not download speed. YouTube recommends keeping 20% headroom beyond the total streaming bitrate. For example, a single 5 Mbps stream calls for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under that margin; a 14 Mbps stream calls for at least 16.8 Mbps. If more than one stream is running on the connection, account for their combined bitrate before applying the headroom.
- Measure upload speed on the connection and at the location you will use for the broadcast.
- Test at the time and under the conditions the stream will run; available bandwidth can vary.
- If the connection is unstable, reduce the bitrate or frame rate until the encoder can send consistently.
- A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to connect the encoder to the router. It is not a requirement and cannot fix an unreliable internet service by itself.
YouTube’s network guidance emphasizes available upload bandwidth, headroom and connection reliability.

Create the live stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Choose its visibility—public, private or unlisted—and configure other live settings as needed.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming or broadcast settings. A stream key acts like a password for the feed; do not share it or show it in a recording.
- Set the encoder’s output to the resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, rate control and keyframe interval you selected. Use RTMPS if the encoder supports it.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room for incoming video, audio and stream-health messages before making the broadcast public.
YouTube’s live-stream settings help covers visibility, stream-key handling, latency and DVR. For a first-time live stream, YouTube says enablement may take up to 24 hours; set it up well ahead of the planned broadcast. The encoder workflow is covered in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Test the loop, sound and stream health
A live encoder can be sending a technically valid signal while the video itself has an obvious jump at the loop point. Test the actual footage and ambience before relying on it for a long broadcast.

- Watch the end-to-start transition several times. Look for a flash, jump in framing, sudden brightness change or pause.
- Listen across the same transition. Check for a click, abrupt cut, silence or change in ambient level.
- Test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, not just a still frame or muted preview.
- Confirm that the encoder keeps running and that YouTube continues to receive a signal; monitor stream-health warnings during the broadcast.

Latency, DVR and protocol choices
Latency
For a fireplace ambience stream with little or no audience interaction, stability is usually more useful than minimizing delay. YouTube cautions that lower latency can mean more buffering and notes that it matters less when the streamer does not interact with viewers. Choose the latency setting with your audience and connection in mind rather than selecting the lowest option automatically.

DVR
DVR is optional. When enabled, viewers can pause, rewind and resume the live stream. Decide whether those controls suit the experience you want to offer.
RTMPS or HLS
Use a protocol supported by your encoder and compatible with the production features you need. YouTube recommends RTMPS for general streaming. Its HLS guidance describes higher latency because HLS sends video segments instead of a continuous stream, so HLS is unlikely to offer an advantage for a simple, non-interactive fireplace loop. Copyright and channel suitability
A looped fireplace video is not automatically cleared for broadcast just because the scene is familiar or the video is relaxing. Use footage and audio you created, licensed for this use, or otherwise have permission to stream. A license should cover the relevant material and the way you plan to use it; permission to use a video does not necessarily include its music or sound recording.
Also consider whether a channel built around repeated or minimally changed footage offers enough original value for its intended audience. Ownership or permission to stream and eligibility for YouTube monetization are separate questions. Do not assume that a technically compliant live stream guarantees monetization or channel approval.
Keep the stream running: computer or cloud
Run your own encoder
With a local software or hardware encoder, the device must stay powered, the encoder must remain active, and the internet connection must keep uploading. A computer going to sleep, an application closing, a power cut or a network outage can interrupt the broadcast. This approach gives you direct control over the encoder and its output, but you are responsible for keeping the setup running and recovering from interruptions.
