A McCallum Theatre press-release biography says he began piano lessons as a child and grew up hearing opera and classical music alongside Whitney Houston and Frank Sinatra. It describes him as later expanding his listening toward contemporary pop, including Ed Sheeran. The release quotes Bocelli saying, “I’d always loved music since I was a little kid,” and that music began to feel like more than a passion around age 16 or 17. The McCallum Theatre biography presents this background and quotation.

What does Matteo Bocelli’s music sound like?
The McCallum Theatre describes his solo work as combining pop songwriting with a classically minded vocal style. Its biography says his early listening included opera and classical music as well as popular singers, while his later interests widened to modern pop. That account offers context for the blend, rather than a definitive description of every song. The release also quotes him saying, “I’m a very romantic guy, and I love ballads.”
