Use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room with an encoder to send a prepared audiobook program—narration paired with cover art or another visual—to your channel. Create or schedule the stream, copy its stream URL and key into the encoder, check the preview, then start the encoder. For a true 24/7 broadcast, plan for monitoring and recovery, set the audience accurately, clear the rights to every part of the program, and split sessions if you need YouTube archives: streams over 12 hours may not be captured.
Before you set up the broadcast
Check channel eligibility and timing
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The person streaming must be at least 16. First-time livestream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch rather than waiting until broadcast day. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming; an encoder is the relevant workflow for sending a prepared audiobook program.
Prepare the program
Assemble the narration, any music or sound effects, and the visuals that will accompany the audio, such as cover art or a visual loop. Prepare an accurate title and description, and decide whether to publish immediately or schedule the stream. A prepared program still needs an incoming audio-and-visual feed; do not assume that uploading an audio file alone creates a livestream.
Document rights before going live
“Original” does not automatically establish that every part of a production is cleared. Keep records for the written story, recording, narrator’s performance, music, illustrations, and any other contributed or third-party material. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights needed for live and archived material. Its live systems scan for third-party matches; a match can replace the picture, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If you have licensed third-party content, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for reliable live use.

Copyright can apply separately to written works, sound recordings, and audiovisual works. YouTube’s general explanation that creators of original works usually own copyright automatically does not settle ownership among co-authors, narrators, publishers, illustrators, or contractors; contracts and local law matter. Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines as well as copyright rules.
Create the livestream in YouTube Studio

Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live to enter Live Control Room.

In Live Control Room, create a stream or use Manage to schedule one. Set the title, description, visibility, and other available stream details.

Set the audience for the live stream. If the stories are directed at children, select Made for Kids. YouTube expects creators to make this selection accurately based on their content.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio into your encoder’s YouTube connection settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if you think it has been exposed.

Start the encoder and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check the preview before starting the public broadcast.
Choose and configure an encoder
Software or hardware
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. Software encoding runs on a computer, so the computer’s stability and the software setup become part of the operating plan. A hardware video encoder is a dedicated device that may suit a more complex production or a setup where dedicated equipment and redundancy are important. It is optional: YouTube says creators do not need expensive equipment to begin and recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production-value events. There is no universal YouTube recommendation for which approach is best for a 24/7 audiobook channel.

Set output and network capacity
Use the encoder’s YouTube output mode and current settings guidance in Live Control Room. The available guidance for this setup does not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval that fits every audiobook stream, so do not copy a one-size-fits-all number without checking the encoder and YouTube recommendations for your chosen output. Keep the same video and audio settings consistent through testing and broadcast.

YouTube recommends about 20% headroom above that combined total. On a shared connection, other household or office use can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder; test under realistic network conditions rather than relying only on the advertised plan speed.
Test the complete path before publishing

Set up the encoder well ahead of launch and run an unlisted test. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the feed and that the preview shows the intended visuals.

Open the watch page on another device, including a phone, and check that narration is audible and the picture is correct. Listen for missing, clipped, or unexpectedly quiet audio; confirm that the visuals are not obscured or distracting.

Test the restart or failover procedure. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover, but its guidance does not certify a particular 24/7 uptime design or automation system.

If keeping a copy of the broadcast matters, verify that local recording is working and that the resulting file can be played back. A local copy is separate from YouTube’s archive.

During the live run, monitor audio and video quality and check the encoder and network for interruptions. Compare available upload capacity with the combined primary and backup bitrates, including the recommended headroom.
Set expectations for a Made for Kids livestream
For a stream of stories intended for children, select Made for Kids in Live Control Room. On Made for Kids livestreams, YouTube restricts features that include live chat, chat donations, comments, reminder notifications, and personalized advertising. Do not plan the show around live audience interaction or promise viewers reminder notifications for the stream. YouTube says personalized ads are not served on kids content, which may reduce revenue for some creators; that does not determine whether a particular channel is eligible for monetization or what it will earn.

Plan session length if you need archives or rewind
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Very long streams may also have limited or unavailable DVR, so viewers may not be able to rewind as expected. If you need a YouTube archive of each broadcast, end a session before the 12-hour threshold and start another according to a schedule you have tested. Keep a local recording as a backup; do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour session for a complete archive.
Troubleshoot common livestream problems

The stream does not appear in Live Control Room: Confirm the encoder is using the stream URL and key from the correct YouTube stream, and check that the encoder has actually started sending. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

The preview is missing or unstable: Check the encoder’s connection and output settings, then compare the available upload bandwidth with the combined primary and backup bitrate. Reduce competing network use and test again.

Audio or visuals are wrong: Check the source playlist or file, the selected encoder inputs, and the receiving preview and watch page. Confirm the issue on another device before publishing.

The broadcast is interrupted after a copyright match: Review the audio and visuals for third-party material, confirm that the necessary live and archive rights are documented, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if the material is licensed.

The broadcast has no usable YouTube archive: Check whether the session exceeded 12 hours. For future archives, use shorter sessions and verify that local recording is enabled.

Chat or reminders are unavailable: Check the audience designation. These features are restricted on Made for Kids livestreams.
