You can broadcast bhajan audio and visuals through OBS to YouTube Live, but a single computer setup is not a guaranteed unattended 24/7 service. Enable live streaming on your channel in advance, connect OBS with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, choose encoder settings your upload connection can sustain, and test the complete stream before relying on it. You also need rights for the specific recordings and visuals you use.
What “continuous” means with OBS
OBS sends a live feed from your computer to YouTube. For a prerecorded bhajan programme, prepare the audio and visuals in OBS and arrange playback to repeat for the intended session. The computer, OBS, playback, power and internet connection must remain available while you stream. A local OBS setup does not automatically provide a second encoder or guaranteed recovery if the computer or connection fails.
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one session will be archived as a single video if it exceeds that threshold, or treat the guidance as a promise that an OBS stream can remain uninterrupted indefinitely. Plan how you will end, restart or manage archives for a longer broadcast.
Prepare the YouTube channel and stream
- Enable live streaming early. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and encoder setup instructions.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and configure the stream. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers stream management.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. Use OBS’s streaming settings and the values shown in YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send a feed. Do not publish or share it; reset it if you believe it has been exposed. YouTube explains the encoder connection in its setup guide.
- Build the programme in OBS. Add the bhajan audio and the visuals you have rights to use, then set the encoder output to the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. OBS menus and playback/loop controls can vary by version, so confirm those controls in the version installed rather than relying on an assumed menu path.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Include representative audio and moving video. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health and any warnings before making the public broadcast available. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder in advance, testing, and monitoring throughout the event. Choose stable encoder settings
Start with YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions table for the resolution and frame rate you actually plan to send. The relevant settings include RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, H.264 video, constant bitrate encoding and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Use the bitrate range YouTube lists for your output format rather than choosing a number based only on the desired picture quality.

Run a speed test and choose a quality that the available upload connection can sustain reliably. A lower, steady output is preferable to a higher setting that causes dropped frames or an unstable stream. Test with the real audio and motion in the programme, then monitor stream health during the broadcast; a speed test alone does not verify the whole setup.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion. HLS is also supported with OBS, but is mainly relevant to supported codec or HDR workflows and has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. YouTube’s HLS requirements include TS segments of 1–4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Unless you have a specific reason to use HLS, use the normal YouTube/OBS streaming option and verify the chosen settings in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s HLS setup guide.

Plan for a long session and failures
- Keep the setup attended. OBS depends on the computer, power, network and playback continuing to work. Arrange for someone to monitor stream health and respond if the feed stops.
- Do not mistake a backup test for redundancy. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover when an event uses a backup encoder. A single computer running OBS does not gain a backup encoder merely because failover exists as an option.
- Plan around archiving. YouTube’s cited guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a longer programme, decide how to manage session length and resulting archives rather than relying on one uninterrupted session or one archive beyond that threshold.
- End deliberately. When the session is over, stop the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder.
Clear rights for bhajan recordings and visuals
Devotional subject matter does not by itself make a recording free to use. A traditional composition may still be performed or recorded in a protected arrangement, and the video, artwork or other visuals may have separate rights. Use your own recordings and visuals, material licensed for the intended live and archived uses, or works whose relevant rights you have checked.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. If copyrighted material remains in a stream, YouTube may interrupt or terminate it. Its livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights. If you have a third-party licence, the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a licence alone may not prevent an interruption if that has not been done. Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that OBS has the correct stream URL and key from the selected YouTube Studio stream. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS with the new value.
- Stream health shows problems: Review the chosen resolution, frame rate and bitrate against YouTube’s current encoder table. Test the upload connection and reduce the output to a level it can sustain.
- Audio or visuals are missing or wrong: Check the OBS scene and playback with representative material before going live, then confirm the result in Live Control Room’s preview.
- The live stream is interrupted over music: Check whether the recording or visual triggered a third-party match. Confirm that your permissions cover live and archived use, and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable.
- A long broadcast is not one continuous archive: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. Manage longer programming with that limit in mind rather than expecting a single archive for a session beyond it.
