For a 1080p60 gaming rerun sent to YouTube as a live stream, use 17 Mbps video bitrate with H.264 or 12 Mbps with AV1/H.265. Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. These are YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations, not its separate bitrate guidance for uploading a finished video.
Which bitrate should you use for a 1080p60 rerun?
YouTube does not publish a special “rerun” profile. If you send recorded gameplay through an encoder as a YouTube Live broadcast, the practical approach is to use YouTube’s live encoder recommendations for 1080p60. That interpretation follows YouTube’s distinction between live ingest and normal video uploads; its guidance does not define a separate prerecorded-rerun workflow.

These are YouTube’s recommendations for 1080p at up to 60 fps, checked October 3, 2026. Choose a codec your encoder supports and that fits your available sustained upload capacity; the published figures do not establish that one codec always looks better for gaming. Use the live bitrate as a target only if your connection can sustain it alongside other network traffic. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks, but that does not remove the need for a stable upload connection from your encoder.

Test the signal before starting the rerun
- Set the encoder to 1920×1080 at 60 fps. Select H.264 at 17 Mbps, or AV1/H.265 at 12 Mbps, if supported by your encoder and connection.
- Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Confirm the interval is no longer than four seconds.
- Configure audio and color. Use AAC or MP3 audio, 128 Kbps for stereo, and Rec. 709 for SDR.
- Send a test stream and check stream health. Include audio and gameplay movement similar to the planned broadcast, and verify that your upload capacity is stable rather than relying on its advertised peak.
- Review the live output before sharing it. Check that picture, sound, and motion are present and that the encoder and YouTube report a healthy signal.
YouTube Help puts the test plainly: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
Live rerun bitrate is not the same as uploaded VOD bitrate
If you encode a finished SDR video file and upload it as a regular YouTube video, YouTube recommends 12 Mbps for 1080p high-frame-rate uploads. For a live rerun, use the live-ingest table instead: 17 Mbps for H.264 or 12 Mbps for AV1/H.265 at 1080p60. The upload figure describes a submitted video file; the live figures describe the real-time signal sent to YouTube.

Plan the archive if the complete replay matters
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, and YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as backup. If viewers need the full rerun afterward, do not depend on a single continuous stream longer than that threshold. Record locally and plan the broadcast duration around YouTube’s archive caveat. The required storage depends on recording settings and duration; YouTube does not specify a drive or capacity.
Reuse stream setup without assuming a new bitrate profile
YouTube Live Control Room can reuse settings from a prior stream, including metadata, settings, and the stream key, while letting you change settings for the new stream. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream. These controls can make repeat broadcasts and viewing more convenient, but they do not create a distinct bitrate recommendation for prerecorded reruns.
