You can keep prerecorded videos looping on YouTube through a cloud service without leaving your computer running. The key is to separate cloud playback from YouTube ingest: the service plays your files and sends a live feed to YouTube, while YouTube’s current encoder guidance determines how that feed should be configured. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default; if you need manual settings, use a custom stream key and verify the result in Live Control Room.
Before you start: enable live streaming
Confirm that live streaming is enabled for your YouTube channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the intended broadcast. Schedule the stream in advance when practical. A cloud service can handle continuous prerecorded playout, but YouTube remains the destination and must receive a supported live connection.
Choose a cloud service for prerecorded looping
Select a service that explicitly supports continuous prerecorded YouTube streams, rather than assuming a generic cloud video host can create a persistent broadcast. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre and Upstream as cloud tools for this purpose. Evaluate a service by whether it supports a YouTube account/API connection or manual RTMP, playlist looping in order or shuffled, media conversion if needed, documented restart behavior, and the resolution, frame rate, and codecs you intend to use.
Upstream’s published workflow provides a concrete example of the setup. Its quick-start guide supports YouTube Connect (API) and manual RTMP, and recommends YouTube Connect for direct setup and management. Follow the selected service’s own steps for scheduling or starting a persistent stream; a generic start button does not necessarily create a durable YouTube broadcast.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up the cloud playlist and YouTube connection
- Create the stream in the service. In Upstream, create a stream and choose either YouTube Connect or manual RTMP. Prefer the account/API connection if it suits the service workflow; retain manual RTMP as an alternative.
- Upload and arrange the videos. Add your prerecorded files to the service’s library, create a playlist, and choose sequential or shuffled playback. Confirm the service’s media format and conversion requirements before uploading.
- Connect YouTube. For YouTube Connect, authorize the service through its documented flow. For manual RTMP, open YouTube Studio’s live stream setup and copy the current server URL and stream key into the matching service fields. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it outside the service connection.
- Schedule and start persistent playout. Use the service’s documented controls for scheduling and continuous playback. Verify that the service is sending the stream to the intended YouTube broadcast, rather than assuming that playlist playback alone starts a YouTube live event.
- Check YouTube’s preview and health indicators. Open Live Control Room and confirm that video and audio arrive as expected. Use the displayed stream-health messages to identify configuration problems before relying on the stream.
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings
YouTube’s official encoder settings and bitrates page says: “By default (recommended), YouTube will automatically detect your resolution and frame rate.” Use that default unless you have a specific reason to set them manually. YouTube says manual resolution settings require a custom stream key with manual settings enabled.
The published guidance varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube lists these recommended ingest bitrates:

| Video format | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 or 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
YouTube’s settings page does not display a publication year for these figures. They describe YouTube ingest, not a universal bitrate preset for every cloud service. Recheck YouTube’s current table when configuring a stream because its encoder guidance can change.
YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS for ingest; H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); AAC or MP3 audio; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Check that your service supports the codec and protocol you select before using less common ingest options. A setting available in YouTube’s documentation may not be available in a particular cloud service.

Test the stream and read its health messages
Before leaving a loop to run, test representative video with motion and audio. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then confirm that the playlist advances and repeats as intended. The YouTube Live Streaming API’s documented health issues include bitrate or frame-rate mismatches, missing audio or video, codec problems, and keyframe interval problems; these indicators help distinguish an ingest configuration issue from a playlist or service issue.
Keep YouTube ingest guidance separate from cloud processing
Encoder recommendations can refer to different stages of a video pipeline. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation recommends SRT over RTMP for that API’s source input when the encoder supports it. That is guidance for input to Google Cloud’s managed processing pipeline; it is not a replacement for YouTube’s settings for the feed that reaches YouTube.

Troubleshoot common loop-stream problems
- YouTube receives no video. Check that the service is connected to the correct scheduled broadcast and that its documented persistent-stream start procedure was followed. With manual RTMP, recheck the current server URL and stream key in both systems.
- The preview has no audio. Confirm that the uploaded files contain an audio track and that the service is sending an audio codec YouTube supports, such as AAC or MP3. Check Live Control Room for an absent-audio health message.
- YouTube reports a bitrate or frame-rate mismatch. Verify the outgoing stream against YouTube’s current codec- and format-specific recommendations. If you intentionally need fixed resolution or frame rate, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings; otherwise, leave YouTube’s recommended automatic detection in place.
- YouTube reports a codec or keyframe issue. Confirm that the service’s outgoing codec is supported by both the service and YouTube, and that the keyframe interval is two seconds where possible and never over four seconds.
- The stream stops after a disconnect. Check the cloud provider’s documented reconnect and restart behavior, then confirm YouTube’s broadcast state in Live Control Room. Do not assume all services recover in the same way.
- The playlist does not repeat or plays in the wrong order. Check the playlist mode and sequence or shuffle option in the cloud service, then verify the selected playlist is attached to the active stream.
