To stream a Malayalam podcast on YouTube with OBS, first make sure the channel is eligible for live streaming, create or schedule a YouTube event, then connect OBS using the event’s stream URL and private stream key. A practical spoken-word starting point is 1080p30 H.264 video at 5 Mbps and stereo AAC audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz—if your computer and upload connection can sustain it.
Before you set up the stream
YouTube’s encoder setup is not Malayalam-specific: the delivery steps are the same for a Malayalam podcast as for another spoken-word show. Use Malayalam in the program itself and in viewer-facing details such as its title and description. The settings below concern getting the audio and video from OBS to YouTube, not language, translation, or caption quality.
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current help page sets the minimum age for livestreaming at 16. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- Install and open OBS, and have the microphone or other audio source you intend to use connected.
- Use a stable upload connection. The bitrate recommendations are starting points, not a guarantee that a particular computer or network can maintain a stream.
Create or schedule the YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- For a stream starting now, use the Stream tab. To prepare in advance, choose Manage and schedule a stream.
- Enter the event’s title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and schedule. A scheduled event creates a watch page you can share, and viewers can set reminders.
- Keep the Live Control Room open. You will copy the stream URL and key from there when you connect OBS.
For YouTube’s encoder workflow and event options, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and manage live stream settings.
Prepare OBS for a Malayalam podcast
Use the OBS Quick Start Guide to configure the software initially. Build a scene around what the show actually needs: for example, a microphone and a title card, or a camera view with a name graphic. Add an audio input source and confirm that OBS is receiving the intended microphone. Add a camera, guest view, or overlays only if your format calls for them.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
You do not need a complicated setup to begin. YouTube says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” A microphone is relevant for spoken-word audio, but no particular model or additional gear is required by the encoder workflow. YouTube lists more elaborate possibilities—including multiple microphones, cameras, a mixer, and preamps—as options for advanced productions, not prerequisites.
Connect OBS to YouTube securely
- In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the event’s stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open the stream settings. Select YouTube as the service if it is available, or enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the server and key fields.
- Choose RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends it as the encrypted transport option.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as like a password and address for the stream. Do not show it in screenshots or on air. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement key.
Choose video and audio settings
For a spoken-word show, 1080p30 is a reasonable baseline if the computer and connection are stable. Higher resolution is not automatically better: choose a lower profile if it reduces dropped frames, overloaded encoding, or interrupted audio. YouTube’s recommendations below are platform guidance, not results from a test of your equipment.

| Setting | Starting point | When to adjust |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | Use the encoder and format supported by your setup and YouTube’s current guidance. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 30 fps | Choose 720p30 if your connection or computer cannot reliably sustain 1080p30. YouTube supports frame rates up to 60 fps, but a podcast does not need a higher frame rate simply because it is available. |
| Video bitrate | 5 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264 | YouTube recommends 3 Mbps for 720p30 H.264. Reduce resolution and bitrate together if the stream is unstable. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies constant bitrate for this workflow. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC, stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | Check that OBS is using the intended microphone and that the audio is clear before increasing video quality. |
See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its current settings guidance. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Run a speed test and avoid treating the maximum measured upload speed as a safe continuous rate. If using primary and backup feeds, allow for both in your bandwidth planning. The relevant guidance is in YouTube’s streaming tips.
Test the show, then go live
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event, and start sending the feed at least 15 minutes before it begins, as YouTube recommends.
- Send a test feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that the intended OBS scene appears and that speech is audible and clean.
- Open the watch page and check playback on a phone as well as your main device. Confirm the event’s visibility and that the audio and video look right to a viewer.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live in YouTube after the preview appears. Continue monitoring stream health and audio/video during the program.
- When the show is over, end the stream in YouTube and stop sending from OBS. YouTube automatically archives streams that run for less than 12 hours.
An unlisted or private test can help a new host rehearse without presenting the test as the public episode. YouTube’s additional preparation advice is in YouTube live streaming tips.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, meets YouTube’s age requirement, and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- YouTube receives no feed: Confirm that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct event. Check the selected YouTube service or server field, and make sure OBS is actually sending.
- The preview is missing or shows the wrong scene: Check the selected OBS scene and sources, then wait for the Live Control Room preview before starting the scheduled event.
- Speech is missing or coming from the wrong microphone: Confirm the audio input source in OBS, select the intended device, and listen to a test before the show.
- Video stutters or frames drop: Check upload stability and encoder load. Reduce from 1080p30 to 720p30 and use the corresponding recommended bitrate if necessary; leave upload headroom rather than pushing the connection to its limit.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Reset it in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS. Do not include the new key in a public screenshot or broadcast.
- A stream ends unexpectedly: Check OBS’s connection and YouTube’s stream health, then reconnect using the event’s current stream details. Test the recovery procedure before a scheduled episode.
Copyright, archives, and episode presentation
Use audio and video you have the right to stream, including music, clips, images, and guest contributions. A Malayalam-language program is not exempt from copyright rules. Before adding music or documentary excerpts, check the permissions that apply to those specific materials; the encoder settings do not grant reuse rights. YouTube’s live guidance covers setup and delivery, but it does not establish that any particular third-party content is cleared for your program.
For a scheduled episode, provide an accurate title and description so viewers know it is a Malayalam podcast, and use a thumbnail that represents the program. YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; review the resulting archive and its visibility after the broadcast.
