Before leaving it unattended, make sure your channel is eligible for live streaming, confirm you have rights to every video and audio track, and test the entire sequence—including transitions, preview, and the watch page. For a stream that may run longer than 12 hours, do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive behavior, which applies to streams under 12 hours.
What you need before scheduling the stream
- An eligible YouTube channel: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- A playlist and encoder: Use encoder software, hardware, or a cloud service to send the prerecorded sequence to YouTube Live. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; confirm current product details with the provider before choosing it. - Rights to all material: Check the rights for the yoga recordings, music, and any other included content. Having a recording or a music subscription does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it live.
- A reliable upload connection and a way to check the stream: YouTube advises leaving upload-bandwidth headroom and monitoring stream health. An unattended broadcast cannot be assumed to recover after every computer, encoder, power, or internet failure.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live to enter Live Control Room. If you have not enabled live streaming before, do so in advance; activation may take up to 24 hours.
- In Live Control Room, create or schedule the event. You can schedule it through the Manage tab. Scheduling creates a watch page viewers can visit and gives them the option to set a reminder. Reuse suitable stream settings or create new ones, and verify the event’s start time and privacy settings before saving. YouTube Help: Schedule a live stream.
- Open the event’s stream settings and copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed. The precise labels and fields depend on the encoder you choose. YouTube Help: Live streaming with an encoder.
Prepare and test the yoga playlist
Check content, sound, and sequence
- Play the playlist from beginning to end, including the transitions between classes. Confirm that there are no unintended gaps, abrupt cutoffs, or missing files.
- Check that the audio is audible and balanced, and that the picture is present and suitable throughout. Confirm that the playlist actually repeats or continues in the order you intend; do not assume every encoder handles playlist looping the same way.
- Verify that every class and music track is cleared for this use. YouTube scans live video for third-party matches. A match can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If a rights holder has licensed material for the stream, YouTube says to ask that rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
Test the actual encoder-to-event path
- Configure the encoder with the scheduled event’s stream URL and key, then start a test transmission early enough to make changes.
- Check YouTube’s incoming preview before the event begins. Confirm the correct playlist is arriving, and inspect image, audio, and transitions.
- Open the event on the channel and watch page, and check it on a mobile device. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder well in advance and checking the stream from these viewer-facing pages. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
- If your encoder offers YouTube automatic start and stop settings, check what those controls do in that encoder and test them beforehand. Do not assume a setting works the same way across all software or hardware.
Keep the connection stable overnight
YouTube says the total streaming bitrate must fit within the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving about 20% headroom. A network disruption can break the stream, so test the connection under the conditions you expect during the broadcast and monitor stream health where possible. A wired Ethernet connection is an optional choice for a computer-based encoder, not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee against outages. Whatever connection you use, consider what you will do if the computer, encoder, power, or internet fails. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring; it does not establish that every local setup will resume automatically after an interruption.
Plan for the archive and the run length
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If your overnight playlist might run for 12 hours or longer, do not depend on that automatic archive behavior. Decide in advance whether you need a separate recording or another archive plan, and check the event after the stream ends. YouTube Help: Live streaming with an encoder.

YouTube does not let you start the live stream
Check that live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified, and the channel has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, activation may take up to 24 hours; enable it ahead of the event rather than troubleshooting at the scheduled start.

The preview is missing or shows the wrong content
Confirm that the encoder is using the correct scheduled event’s stream URL and key, then check that the intended playlist is selected and playing. Test the full sequence and transitions before relying on the overnight run.
The stream disconnects or looks unstable
Check upload capacity against the total streaming bitrate and leave the headroom YouTube recommends. Inspect the encoder and YouTube stream health, and use RTMPS if the encoder supports it. If a local computer, power supply, or network drops, recovery depends on the specific setup; do not assume the stream will restart by itself.

The live stream is interrupted over a content match
Review the video and audio rights for every playlist item. YouTube scans live video for third-party matches, which can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If a rights holder authorized the use, ask them to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
The replay is not automatically archived
Check the expected run length: YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior covers streams under 12 hours. Do not count on it for a run that could exceed that duration.
