First identify where the audio and picture stop lining up: check the recording in local playback, then make a representative test through the live encoder if you are sending that recording to YouTube Live. These are different workflows: YouTube’s encoder guidance applies to live ingestion, not to an ordinary video uploaded to YouTube.
First, identify which YouTube workflow you mean
- Ordinary uploaded video: The video is uploaded as a regular YouTube video. Live-encoder settings do not diagnose or repair a mismatch in the uploaded file.
- Prerecorded file sent through YouTube Live: A live encoder such as OBS plays the recording into a live stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance and stream-health checks apply to this workflow.
Before changing settings, play the source file locally and note whether its audio and image already drift apart. This establishes whether the mismatch is present before the live encoder is involved.
Diagnose where and how the mismatch appears
Compare local playback with an encoder test
If the local recording is in sync but the live output is not, make a controlled test through the encoder before the real stream. Include the kind of sound and movement you expect in the actual ASMR stream; YouTube says, “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Monitor stream health and any messages during the test.
Check whether the offset is steady or grows
Observe whether audio begins consistently ahead of or behind the image, or whether the gap becomes larger over time. This distinction helps locate the problem, but the reviewed official guidance does not prescribe a universal offset or guaranteed fix for prerecorded ASMR streams. Verify the current controls for the specific encoder and version you use before changing an application setting.

Separate sync from delivery problems
Note whether the stream also has dropped frames, disconnections, or connection warnings. Those point to a possible delivery or network issue alongside the sync question; they do not by themselves prove the cause of a steady audio-picture offset.
Check live-encoder audio settings
YouTube’s live encoder recommendations specify a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo audio and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Treat these as ingestion recommendations, not as a documented cure for desynchronization. Match the setting to the audio format you are sending, then repeat a representative test.

Do not confuse stream latency with audio-picture sync. YouTube uses “latency” to describe the delay between capture and presentation to viewers; changing a latency mode is not established as a way to correct the relative timing of sound and image.
Investigate dropped frames or unstable delivery separately
OBS defines dropped frames as an indication that the connection is unstable or the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. If you see that symptom, OBS recommends reducing the video bitrate to a level your stable upload speed can support and using a wired network where practical. These steps address connection stability; they are not a guaranteed correction for a steady sync offset.

Understand HLS latency without mistaking it for a sync fix
YouTube’s HLS guidance uses video segments of 1–4 seconds; shorter segments reduce latency. HLS has higher latency because it delivers video in segments. This concerns when viewers receive the stream, not a documented repair for audio and picture falling out of relative sync.
