Rest cards are video segments—not a YouTube timer—so set their length before you start. In Live Control Room, preview the feed before going live, and use only footage and audio you have the rights to broadcast.
Choose how to send the video to YouTube Live
YouTube offers webcam streaming from a computer and encoder streaming. Choose based on the setup you already have; YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary.
| Route | Best fit | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Webcam | A simple computer-based camera feed. | A computer with a webcam and the video or production setup you intend to stream. |
| Encoder | A more controlled production or a feed using additional inputs such as cameras and microphones. | An encoder configured with YouTube’s server URL and stream key. |
YouTube’s webcam route is designed for a camera feed; for a prepared video with timed cards, use a production setup that can play the completed video into the live feed. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not prescribe a particular editing or playback application.
Build the stretch loop and rest screens
- Arrange the movement segments. Put the demonstrations in the order you want viewers to follow. Choose the sequence and pacing for your intended audience; YouTube’s live-stream guidance does not set yoga sequences or exercise intervals.
- Insert a rest screen after each movement or group. Make each rest screen a segment in the video and set its duration in your editing or video-preparation workflow. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not describe a built-in yoga rest-card timer.
- Make the cards self-explanatory. Put the rest duration and a prompt for the next movement on the card. This helps viewers who join partway through understand what is happening.
- Make the sequence repeat within the video. Arrange the video so the full sequence starts again after its last segment. A repeat in the prepared content means late-arriving viewers can encounter the sequence again; do not rely on viewers having watched from the start.
- Check rights for every element. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Use original or appropriately licensed footage and audio, with permissions covering the broadcast and any replay you plan to keep.
Set up and preview the YouTube Live broadcast
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube currently requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio, since platform requirements and interfaces can change.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Choose Go Live, then create or schedule the stream and choose its privacy and other event settings.
- Connect the production route. For an encoder workflow, enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder. Start sending the feed and wait for it to appear in the Live Control Room preview. Keep the stream key private: it directs the encoder feed to your channel.
- Review before broadcast. Check the preview and confirm the event is accessible with the intended privacy setting. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring audio and video quality. If you do not want a public test, YouTube’s tips say the event can be public or unlisted before it starts.
- Go live and monitor. Once the preview is correct, start the broadcast through the Live Control Room flow. Watch the picture and listen to the audio so you can respond if the feed or sound is not as intended.
Plan for viewers joining late, DVR, and replay
YouTube Live DVR can let viewers pause, resume, and rewind, subject to platform limits. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. These are platform limits, not recommended class or stream durations. If an archived replay matters, check the resulting video and its rights after the broadcast.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The rest card does not stay up for the intended time: The card’s duration is determined by the prepared video. Adjust that segment in the video workflow and verify the resulting playback before streaming; YouTube does not supply a native rest-card timer in the reviewed guidance.
- The encoder feed does not appear in preview: Check that the encoder has the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, that it is sending the feed, and that you are looking at the intended Live Control Room event. Do not share the stream key.
- The event cannot start: Verify channel eligibility in YouTube Studio, including channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction applies.
- Audio or picture is wrong in the preview: Pause before going live and test the production setup. Check the feed and audio at the source, then confirm the corrected result in the Live Control Room preview.
- Viewers cannot rewind as expected: DVR behavior can be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Keep the loop in the video itself so the sequence repeats for viewers who join late.
- A replay raises a rights concern: Confirm that permissions cover both the live broadcast and the archived replay. YouTube’s terms require necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights.
