To stream a 24/7 northern lights ambience video with wind sounds, prepare footage and audio you have the rights to use, send them through an encoder to YouTube Live, test the loop, and monitor the broadcast. YouTube requires an eligible channel and warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays, so plan separately for uninterrupted viewing and for preserving a recording.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says livestreamers must be at least 16 years old. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Northern lights footage and wind audio that you recorded, commissioned, or licensed for livestream transmission and any replay you intend to retain.
- A streaming encoder connected to YouTube Live. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key; the key should be treated like a password. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A stable internet connection with sustained upload capacity for your selected output settings, and a plan to check the live feed while it runs.
A separate, dedicated computer can be useful if you choose to encode locally and want to leave your main computer free. It is not a YouTube requirement, and YouTube notes that expensive equipment is not necessary.
Clear the rights to both the picture and sound
Check the license or written permission for the aurora footage and wind track independently. Confirm that it permits livestream transmission, the territories where the stream will be available, the intended duration, and any replay or local archive you plan to keep. A download being available, or an asset being described as “royalty-free,” does not by itself show that these uses are covered.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. It may replace a broadcast with a placeholder and issue a warning; continued use of matched content can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even when you have permission, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams explains the platform’s matching process. Its livestream terms also place responsibility on the broadcaster to have the necessary rights for the live content.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose continuous streaming or shorter broadcasts
Decide what 24/7 means for your channel: one continuous broadcast, or a sequence of shorter broadcasts that together provide round-the-clock viewing. The choice matters if you need a YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous feed should therefore not be treated as a guaranteed full-length YouTube recording. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
If a complete recording matters, make a local recording and monitor that file as well as the live broadcast. YouTube recommends checking the local archive when recording locally and continuously monitoring the stream’s audio and video quality.

Set up YouTube Live and the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule an encoder stream. Use the stream setup in Live Control Room for the broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Enter them in the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS destination fields. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Set the encoder output. YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. For H.264, its recommended bitrate is 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations, not universal minimums or guarantees of uninterrupted streaming. Choose a resolution and bitrate your connection can sustain.
- Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its published settings and guidance.
- Start sending the feed, then check the preview. Wait for the video to appear in Live Control Room and review stream health before starting the live event.
Run a speed test and do a prelaunch test with motion and audio similar to the actual aurora video. YouTube advises testing before going live; a bitrate that works for a still test image may not be suitable for the real video and sound.
Test the aurora loop and wind track
Before launch, watch the video through its repeating point and listen across the audio transition. Check for a black frame, an abrupt visual jump, a gap or click in the wind, or accidental silence. These are practical checks for this format; YouTube recommends testing with comparable movement and audio but does not prescribe a particular looping program or seam length.

- Confirm the footage returns to its opening without an obvious break.
- Listen at the loop point and at quieter sections so the wind remains intentional rather than cutting out unexpectedly.
- Check that the audio level is consistent and that no unrelated sound has been included in the source file.
- Verify the actual encoder output in the YouTube preview, not only in a local player.
Monitor the broadcast and protect your recording
During the stream, check Live Control Room preview and stream health, confirm the event is accessible, and listen and watch for changing audio or video quality. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend continuous monitoring. If you are recording locally, check that the recording is being created and remains usable; YouTube’s replay behavior does not replace a recording you control.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start the stream: Check that the channel is verified and has had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Confirm that the correct server URL and stream key are entered.
- The stream does not appear in preview: Confirm the encoder is sending to the YouTube server URL, the stream key is current, and the encoder is actually streaming. Check Live Control Room stream health before starting the event.
- Video or audio quality is unstable: Reduce the output bitrate or resolution to what your sustained upload can support, then test again with the actual motion and wind audio. YouTube’s recommended bitrate is guidance, not a promise of reliability.
- The broadcast is interrupted after a content warning: Review the rights to both the image and sound, including any Content ID allowlisting needed from the rights holder. Replace or remove material you cannot clear for the use.
- The YouTube replay is incomplete or absent: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording if the full program must be preserved, and verify that the local file is recording correctly.
- The loop has an audible or visible seam: Recheck the source transition in the encoder preview, revise the footage or sound transition, and test the revised loop before relaunching.
