To run a Tamil devotional playlist as a YouTube live stream with OBS, create an eligible YouTube live event, build an OBS scene with rights-cleared audio and visuals, configure a stable encoder output, then test and monitor the broadcast. A 24/7 stream relies on your computer, power, internet connection, OBS, media source and YouTube connection; OBS does not make those dependencies disappear.
Check YouTube eligibility before preparing the broadcast
YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room well before the time you plan to start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
Clear the rights to every song and visual
Use recordings, artwork and other visuals for which you have permission to livestream. A devotional subject, traditional lyrics, or a track already available on YouTube does not establish that you may rebroadcast that particular recording. Confirm that your permission covers livestreaming, the territories where the stream will be available, and any replay or archive you intend to keep; retain written evidence.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A matched broadcast may be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted or terminated. Even if you have a licence, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed without a match-related interruption. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Create the YouTube live event and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule the live stream.
- Open the event in Live Control Room and choose the encoder connection method. If you are not using OBS’s YouTube service integration, copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the event.
- In OBS, connect through the YouTube integration or paste the URL and key into the stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not post it, show it on screen or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube Studio.
- Return to Live Control Room and confirm that YouTube receives the encoder signal before making the event public or starting the broadcast.
YouTube’s step-by-step encoder setup guide covers the current event workflow.
Build a scene for devotional audio and visuals
In OBS, create a scene for the broadcast and add the sources it needs. A simple layout can use a background image or designed visual, optional Tamil title or devotional identifier, and an audio or media source. OBS scenes can combine image, text and media sources, with their order controlled in the scene.

- Use artwork or a visual you are authorized to stream. Keep titles legible and avoid implying endorsement or affiliation that does not exist.
- Make sure the intended audio source is routed to the stream. Play a sample and check that its meter moves in OBS; listen to the output as well, since a moving meter alone does not confirm the right source is audible.
- Check the transition from one item to the next with representative playlist material. The exact way audio loops depends on the media source and configuration. Official setup guidance does not define a universal playlist-loop recipe for every OBS setup, so test the behavior you choose rather than assuming a source will repeat indefinitely.
- If you need an independent local copy, configure and test OBS recording separately. Check available disk space and whether your computer can sustain the recording; a recording is not a substitute for checking the live stream.
OBS Project’s OBS Studio Overview Guide explains scenes, sources, recording and other controls. Its interface may change between releases.
Choose output settings your connection can sustain
YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR (constant bitrate), AAC or MP3 audio, and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. Choose a resolution and frame rate based on the visual and a real upload-speed test. For mostly static devotional artwork, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point; 60 fps adds little to an unchanged image and increases the demands on the encoder and connection.

For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended ingestion bitrate. These are encoder-to-YouTube settings, not a guarantee of the quality a viewer will receive. Leave enough upload capacity for a stable connection rather than treating a speed-test peak as continuous headroom. For 720p or a different codec, use the corresponding values in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate and resolution guidance; do not apply the 1080p30 figures to other formats.
- Resolution and frame rate: begin with a format your computer can encode and your connection can sustain. A still visual generally does not need 60 fps.
- Rate control: use CBR for YouTube live ingestion.
- Keyframes: set a 2-second interval and keep it at or below 4 seconds.
- Protocol: use RTMPS where available.
- Audio: use AAC or MP3 and verify levels with the actual stream output.
Test, start and monitor the stream
- Run a private or unlisted test, if the event settings allow it, before promoting the public broadcast.
- Start the encoder in OBS and wait for the incoming signal and stream health information in Live Control Room.
- Check the stream from another device. Confirm that the intended Tamil audio is audible, visuals display correctly, and transitions behave as expected.
- During operation, check Live Control Room and OBS periodically for connection health, audio and media-source status. Automatic reconnect is an available OBS advanced setting, but test its behavior in your own setup; it does not guarantee recovery in every failure.
YouTube and OBS both advise testing before a real broadcast. A continuous stream also depends on the computer, electricity, network, OBS process, media source and YouTube connection staying available. A power or internet interruption can stop the broadcast.

Plan the archive separately from the live stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise that a broadcast running continuously for 24 hours will become one complete replay. If an automatic replay matters, consider shorter sessions and confirm the archive behavior for your channel. If you need your own copy, test a local recording plan and account for storage and long-duration reliability. Details are in YouTube’s encoder setup guide and the OBS overview.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: check channel verification, the recent restriction requirement and minimum age, then allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Confirm the event appears in Live Control Room.
- YouTube does not receive a signal: check that OBS is connected to the correct event and that the stream URL and key match. If a key was exposed, replace it. Confirm that OBS is actually streaming rather than only showing a local preview.
- The stream health is poor or the broadcast drops: compare your sustained upload capacity with the selected bitrate, lower resolution or bitrate if needed, and test again. Check the network and power along with OBS’s encoder status.
- There is no sound or the wrong sound: confirm the correct media/audio source is active and routed to the stream, then check meters and listen to the stream from another device.
- The playlist stops or does not repeat: inspect the selected media source’s playback behavior and test the transition or loop with the exact files and settings you plan to use. There is no universal loop setup established for every playlist configuration.
- The stream is interrupted by a copyright match: stop using the matched material until you have verified your rights. If it is licensed, ask the rights owner about allowlisting your channel in Content ID; a licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption.
- You cannot find a complete 24-hour replay: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed single replay for longer continuous broadcasts. Use shorter sessions if the archive is important, or rely on a separately tested local recording.
Or let it run in the cloud
If keeping a computer and home connection running is the difficult part, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube; it does not broadcast from a camera. For a Tamil devotional stream, you still need rights to every recording and visual.
