There is no evidence-based universal winner between Mumbai and Chennai for an FFmpeg stream to YouTube. Compare the actual VPS instances you can buy by testing each one against the stream’s valid YouTube RTMPS ingest endpoint, then choose the provider-region combination that sustains your planned stream and passes YouTube’s stream-health checks. A city label, Google facility listing, or ping to an unrelated host cannot establish which VPS route is better.
What your VPS location affects—and what it does not
This is an encoder-to-ingest network decision: your VPS sends the encoded stream to YouTube. It is separate from the delay viewers experience. YouTube defines live-stream latency as the time between event capture and display to viewers; changing the VPS city does not by itself choose YouTube’s viewer latency mode.
Google’s published location lists establish facilities in Mumbai and Chennai, but they do not compare third-party VPS routes to YouTube ingest. A provider’s network path and the actual ingest destination matter more than the city name alone. YouTube’s location documentation is available at Google Cloud locations.
How to compare Mumbai and Chennai VPS instances
- Identify the actual instances. List the Mumbai and Chennai VPS options the provider currently offers. If a location label is unclear, ask the provider to confirm where the instance is hosted and whether it can provide a test address. Check CPU capacity for your encoding method, bandwidth terms, streaming-traffic rules, cost, and support.
- Get the ingest details for your YouTube stream. Use the stream-specific RTMPS server hostname and application path shown in YouTube’s streaming setup. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which uses port 443; TLS requires the server hostname for SNI. Follow YouTube’s current instructions at Set up your encoder for live streaming. Do not substitute a generic Google IP or unrelated host for the actual ingest target.
- Check each candidate’s route repeatedly. From each VPS, run connectivity and route observations to the stream’s ingest hostname at representative times. Record typical and worst observed delay, variation, packet loss, and sustained outbound upload behavior. Treat these as observations to compare—not as universal pass/fail thresholds: the available YouTube guidance does not prescribe a Mumbai-versus-Chennai latency, loss, or upload-headroom cutoff.
- Test the intended stream workload. Use the same input, resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate you expect to run in production. YouTube recommends checking upload bitrate and testing with representative audio and video movement before going live. Watch the stream-health status and messages in YouTube Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder settings and test guidance.
- Choose on sustained results. Prefer the provider-region combination that stays stable through representative tests and meets your own reliability needs. If results are close, compare provider terms and practical constraints rather than assuming one city is inherently faster.
FFmpeg and YouTube settings to keep consistent during tests
Use YouTube’s current recommendations for the codec and format you plan to stream; the VPS location test is meaningful only when the workload is representative. For H.264, YouTube Help recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Those are encoder recommendations, not guarantees of the bandwidth allocated or sustained by a VPS plan. YouTube also recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. The page’s publication year is not stated; the figures are from YouTube Help, accessed in 2026. Check the current matrix at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). Beats both Intel chips hugely in multi-core, making heavy multitasking, coding, data work smooth at just 15W TDP. High-end power in a cool, efficient box.
- 【AMD Radeon Graphics】– Triple 4K Vision & Fluidity,The integrated Radeon Graphics (based on the modern Vega architecture with 6 CUs) is a visual beast, outclassing the iGPU offerings from both AMD's prior generation and Intel. The Intel UHD Graphics (i3-10110U/N95) struggles with single-channel memory and low execution units, crippling its gaming performance and barely handling basic 4K video without stuttering. While the older Radeon Vega 5 (4300U) was decent, our 7330U's Radeon Graphics (6 CUs) pushes the boundaries, delivering higher graphics clock speeds (up to 1.8GHz) and significantly better rendering capabilities. It can drive triple 4K@60Hz displays with zero lag, edit photos/videos.
- 【Generous Storage & Easy Expansion】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop computers comes with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM (higher frequency, lower power) for buttery‑smooth multitasking, and a 256GB M.2 SSD for blazing fast boot‑up, quick file transfers, and no more long loading screens. It also features two storage expansion slots (1x M.2 2280 SATA/NVMe PCIe 3.0 slot + 1x M.2 2280 SATA slot), supporting up to 4TB total (not included). You’ll have all the space you need for projects, media, and important data.
- 【Triple 4K Display Output】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop pc is equipped with HDMI 2.0 ×1 + DP 1.4 ×1 + USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C ×1 (with DP Alt Mode), enabling simultaneous triple 4K@60Hz output. Whether for home entertainment, remote work, or conference room presentations, it delivers an immersive visual experience. Two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑A ports (up to 10Gbps – 21x faster than USB 2.0) make data transfers and device expansion a breeze.
- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
YouTube’s practical direction is simple: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Configure the correct RTMPS endpoint and SNI hostname, then run a representative pre-stream test and inspect stream health rather than relying on a single speed-test result.
Does a closer VPS reduce YouTube live-stream latency?
Not necessarily, and it does not automatically reduce the delay viewers see. A Mumbai or Chennai VPS can change the network path from encoder to ingest, but only measurements to the actual ingest endpoint can show how that path performs. Viewer latency is selected separately in YouTube’s stream settings.

YouTube describes low latency as suitable for limited interaction and ultra-low latency for real-time interaction. Lower latency reduces read-ahead buffering and can make viewers more likely to experience buffering; low- and ultra-low-latency modes exclude 4K. Choose a viewer-latency mode for the audience experience and buffering tolerance, not as a substitute for comparing VPS routes. See YouTube’s live latency guidance.
