If YouTube says live streaming is disabled, start in YouTube Studio on a computer: open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Then check the Studio dashboard for strikes, and search your YouTube notifications and email for a restriction notice and any appeal instructions. An “Enabled” label in Feature eligibility does not prove that every requirement for live streaming is met.
Check Feature eligibility first
In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Note which access levels or features YouTube lists as enabled. This is a useful starting point, but it is not a complete account-status report: YouTube Help says, “not all YouTube features are managed from within the Feature eligibility tab, and some features may have separate eligibility requirements.” An enabled label therefore does not rule out a separate restriction or requirement.
Follow this diagnostic order
- Review Feature eligibility. Record the status shown under each access level or feature. Do not assume that one enabled status means live streaming is available.
- Check the Studio dashboard. Look for channel violations, strikes, or other notices. YouTube specifically directs creators whose live streams stop to check the dashboard for strikes.
- Search notifications and email. Look for a message from YouTube about a live-stream or channel restriction. YouTube says it will email creators when a live stream or channel is restricted; the notice may include appeal instructions. Use the directions in the notice that applies to your account.
- Check copyright notices separately. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may interrupt a stream. Even if you have a licence, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel for the stream not to be interrupted.
- Use the case-specific appeal or help route. If the notice offers an appeal and you believe the decision is mistaken, follow its instructions. YouTube’s strike guidance describes appealing a strike, but an appeal is not a guarantee that access will be restored.
- Do not try to get around the restriction with another channel. YouTube prohibits streaming from another channel while a live-stream restriction is active and warns that circumvention may lead to termination.
What can disable live streaming?
YouTube identifies policy enforcement, live-stream strikes, copyright matches, and age-related policy as possible causes. A strike on an active or archived live stream may disable live-stream access. The account-specific notice is the best evidence of which cause applies; a public help page or the wording of an error message cannot establish your private enforcement status.
| Possible cause | Where to look | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Feature or channel eligibility | Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility | Review the listed statuses, but remember that some features have separate requirements or are managed elsewhere. |
| Community Guidelines or live-stream enforcement | Studio dashboard, YouTube notifications, and email | Read the notice and follow the appeal instructions it provides, if any. The effect depends on the enforcement action. |
| Copyright match or takedown | Studio dashboard and copyright-related notice | Check the notice for details. A match can interrupt a stream; licensed material may still require a rights-holder allowlist. |
| Age or child-safety policy | Restriction notice and the YouTube policy details it identifies | Use the account-specific explanation; do not infer the cause from the error message alone. |
Know the basic live-stream requirements
YouTube Help states that a channel needs to be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. The 90-day period is a YouTube eligibility requirement, not a promise that access will return automatically on a particular date. Check your own restriction notice for any case-specific duration or next step.

What an “Enabled” status—and no visible notice—does not tell you
A May 2026 YouTube Community post used the message “Live streaming has been disabled. Please review YouTube’s policy for more information.” The poster said Feature eligibility showed “Enabled.” That report illustrates why the status page alone may not resolve the issue; it does not establish a general diagnostic rule or prove that all channels seeing the message share the same cause.
Public YouTube help pages describe possible causes, but they cannot reveal whether your channel has a private enforcement action or when its access will be restored. Do not assume that a strike exists, that eligibility is waiting to “sync,” or that access will return after a fixed wait unless your account notice or an official YouTube source says so.
